Last week I had the incredible privilege to spend the morning with the dedicated team at San Luis Ambulance, Inc. sharing about out-of-hospital birth.
For two hours, we explored home birth and birth center care, the scope of practice of California Licensed Midwives, medications and equipment commonly carried by midwives, case studies, and emergency birth skills that support safe, seamless care when families and providers need to work together.
One of my favorite parts of midwifery is building bridges between professions. Whether a baby is born at home, in a birth center, in a car or ambulance, or in a hospital, we all share the same goal: healthy families, safe outcomes, and compassionate care.
I left inspired by the thoughtful questions, engagement, and commitment these EMS professionals bring to our community every day. Thank you for welcoming me and for the important work you do. Strong relationships between midwives and EMS make our entire maternity care system stronger.
Here’s to collaboration, mutual respect, and supporting families wherever their birth journey unfolds. 🤍
