COMMON QUESTION: do I need braces before a smile makeover?

ANSWER: it depends on many factors! Many patients do not require orthodontics before a smile makeover, but this case highlights a patient who did need treatment from an orthodontist prior to her smile makeover.

Patient presented with over-retained primary canines ( and ) and impacted permanent canines ( #6 and #11) with the help of a periodontal surgeon, orthodontist, and her cosmetic restorative plan with Dr. Scott Young-we were able to collaborate on patient care to give her an incredible smile.

Sometimes significant changes to the overall shape and size of teeth can be a very drastic change for a patient. It’s important that we maintain many aspects of previous anatomy to end up with a very natural looking result.

We do NOT want all smiles looking the same.

Treatment: 10 upper and crowns (replaced some old crowns on the bottom and bleach whitened the lowers)

•You can see how not only does her new porcelain appear less opaque, but her new veneers also corrected her left side (right side in photo) which was much shorter than her right side.

•Better proportions of the front four teeth were also achieved as well creating a less dominant central incisor.
