People love to call it “toxic.”
That word is too soft for what a lot of you are living through.
When someone deliberately pushes you past your limit until you explode, then records it or shows the world the explosion so you become the villain… that is not a fight. That is reactive abuse. They manufacture the reaction and use it as evidence against you.
When they cut you off from your family while keeping their own support system intact… that is isolation.
When they turn people against you and damage your reputation so you have fewer places to land… that is character assassination as a control tactic.
When they constantly threaten divorce or “I’m leaving” but stay in contact just enough to keep your nervous system spinning… that is emotional terrorism.
This happens to women. It happens to men. And a lot of men would rather be painted as the problem than speak up, because the cost of telling the truth can feel higher than staying quiet. Fear of retaliation. Fear of losing kids. Fear of not being believed. That silence is its own form of damage.
Financial control. Physical stuff. Emotional cruelty. Most people already recognize those.
But this quieter layer? Coercive control. Gaslighting through provocation. Weaponizing your trauma responses against you.
That is still abuse.
The fact that it doesn’t leave visible bruises does not make it less real or less damaging.
If you’re reading this and your stomach just dropped… you’re not dramatic. You’re not too sensitive. You’re seeing it clearly.
And that clarity is the beginning of getting your life back.

Schopenhauer wrote a lot about the price we pay for conformity, about how easily we surrender pieces of ourselves trying to live according to the expectations of others.
And damn, I understand that differently now.
For years, I followed the leader. I performed the role expected of me. I kept the peace, swallowed what I really thought, and became whatever version of myself made belonging easier. Then I stopped.
I chose healing over performing. Truth over approval. And eventually, I chose to lead my own life instead of following someone else’s script. That’s when things changed. Some people left. Some got uncomfortable. And some showed me exactly where I stood.
But others did something I’ll never forget.
“They stayed.”
They supported me while I figured out who I was without the performance. They prayed over me when I didn’t have the words. They gave me room to change without demanding I become the old version of myself again.

“To the ones who stayed, supported me, prayed over me, and loved me while I learned how to become myself, you truly mean the world to me.”

Maybe that’s one of the hardest lessons of becoming who you really are, You lose some people when you stop performing. But you finally get to see who loves “you,” not the role you played for them. “Who am I when I stop performing? And who stays when I do?” I’m learning the answers to both.

Next Level Intimacy Coaching isn’t about pretending everything is fine.

It’s about the conversations most people avoid.

The desire that changed.
The relationship that feels more like roommates than lovers.
The betrayal you’re trying to survive.
The body that doesn’t feel like yours anymore.
The intimacy you miss but don’t know how to get back.

Around here, we talk about the real stuff. S*x. Connection. Trust. Trauma. Midlife. Relationships. Pleasure. And yes, sometimes the uncomfortable s**t too.

No shame. No judgment. No pretending.

Just honest conversations, practical support, and a place to figure out what comes next.

The news that a Mobile woman was allegedly unalived by her boyfriend has been heavy on my heart.

As a relationship and intimacy coach, I spend my days talking with people about what healthy love looks like… and what it doesn’t.

I don’t know every detail of this case, and I’m not here to speculate. But I do know this:

Toxic relationships don’t usually become violent overnight.

They often start with constant chaos.

The cussing.
The screaming.
The breakups and makeups.
“I hate you” one minute.
“I can’t live without you” the next.

Someone is always wrong.
Someone is always apologizing.
Someone is always trying to fix what keeps breaking.

That’s not passionate love.

Many times, it’s a trauma bond or an unhealthy attachment pattern. The nervous system becomes trapped in a cycle of conflict, relief, hope, and disappointment. Over time, those cycles can escalate.

Some warning signs you should never ignore:

🚩 Extreme jealousy or possessiveness
🚩 Isolating you from family and friends
🚩 Controlling your phone, money, or where you go
🚩 Constant criticism or humiliation
🚩 Explosive anger followed by apologies and promises to change
🚩 Threats, intimidation, or making you afraid
🚩 Any physical violence, even “just once”

Love should never make you fear for your safety, or cost you your family, your friends, or your sense of who you are.

This tragedy has also reminded me that Mobile is facing a mental health crisis. Too many people are carrying unresolved trauma, depression, anger, addiction, and unhealthy relationship patterns. Too many people want help but can’t access it because they simply can’t afford it.

We have to stop normalizing chaos as passion.

We have to start teaching emotional regulation, healthy attachment, boundaries, conflict resolution, and what real love actually looks like. We also have to make mental health care and relationship support more accessible before another family has to experience this kind of loss.

My prayers are with this woman’s family, her friends, and everyone whose lives have been forever changed.

If this post helps even one person (regardless of gender) recognize the warning signs before it’s too late, then it’s worth sharing.
