Last week, I was walking Chloe, my 14-year-old goldendoodle, talking to my mom on the phone when the wind suddenly picked up. It grew so strong that I had to say goodbye as I found myself stepping into a whirling gust, through a swirling snow globe. The shift from calm to chaos was so sudden, but I made my way through the wind and flakes.
It’s kind of how life is these days. The world is moving fast, and I’m reminded again and again to keep my feet on the ground while staying fluid—to add a layer if needed, to shed one when necessary, but to always keep walking.
We can’t always know what’s around the corner, but we can choose how we move through it. Fear? Trust?
This is something I’ve been practicing each morning as I start the day with a small watercolor painting. Watercolors have a dance all their own, and they remind me to surrender—to find beauty in what unfolds, even if it’s not what I had planned. It’s a lesson in presence and trust, because that's all we ever really have.
That unexpected watercolor swirl I hadn’t anticipated, how can I create something I see as beautiful in it? And then I find something there I can make into a bud or a leaf or the suggestion of a breeze…
How are you moving through your moments? Are you allowing yourself to flow, or are you gripping tightly? Can you find awe in being like a seed carried by the wind—trusting that wherever you land, beauty awaits?
How are you reminding yourself that you have agency over where your attention lies?
Are you consciously choosing where to place your focus—both in how you perceive big world events and how you navigate your everyday reality, as Yogananda describes the path of a householder?
One way to cultivate presence and connection is through cacao. If you’re new to cacao, join me for cacao initiation. If you already have experience, I invite you to come and further strengthen your connection with her this Sunday, March 23 for Unburden & Reclaim: Build Strength from Within.
We’ll explore how to release what weighs us down and continue to build a deeper trust in ourselves and the path ahead. It’s a space for reflection, renewal, and reconnecting with that quiet wisdom within.
Leaning into trust, into the vastness of a benevolent universe, keeps my feet steady and my heart open.
May we all walk our paths with wonder, hope and beauty.
