Reading The Fourth Trimester by .ann.johnson and I love the heart of this quote. Once you have birthed a baby, you are always postpartum, your body, your heart, your soul, your brain, will never be the same. Typically postpartum doula services are provided for months 0-6, but I will gladly support families beyond that if needed. Transitions and valleys can happen at any time. If you have a 1 week old, 1 month old, 1 year old, or a 10 year old and need support, I’d love to help ♥️

I breastfed my son until about a week after he turned two.

When he was born my goal was a year, but after he was born I wasn’t sure we were going to make it that long. We actually had a pretty good start, he was an unplanned c-section and latched on in the OR and my milk came in after two days! But he had reflux and I was determined to change my diet to help it go away. I joke that by the time he started solids I was only eating ground turkey and green beans.

The first few weeks of breastfeeding were pretty painful. He had a lip tie and a tongue tie that needed to be revised. I also got recurring milk blebs for the first six months.

The first time I pumped was in the hospital when he unexpectedly needed surgery for pyloric stenosis.

And we broke the rules and nursed to sleep for almost all of those two years 🤘

Our path was not simple or straightforward, but I’m grateful for it ♥️

With my daughter I found an IBCLC before she was born because - as that IBCLC so accurately put it: same b***s different baby.

And she was different. Her tiny little mouth was so tight that she needed a lip tie, tongue tie, and both cheek ties revised. She managed to do some very serious damage to my ni***es in her first couple days of life.

My milk also did not come in as quickly as with my son and on day 3 I realized she was starving. I tried an SNS but wound up supplementing with bottles for 2-3 weeks before being able to EBF.

The bottles turned into a blessing because when she was five days old I had to go back into the hospital with postpartum preeclampsia. Once again, my first experience with pumping was in the hospital. I pumped every 90 minutes during that hospital stay.

Once she had her ties revised things started getting easier, but she had some issues swallowing and would sometimes gag while eating. Those issues resolved at around 7 months.

And despite literally surviving on bottles in her first couple weeks of life, she stopped taking a bottle at a month old.

We also broke the rules and nursed to sleep 🤘

I weaned her about a month before she turned two due to a medication I needed to start taking, otherwise I’m not sure how long we would have gone for.

Once again, not a simple journey, but absolutely worth it 🌻

Spent the weekend learning all the postpartum doula things at .university with Darla Burns! Feeling so much more prepared to start serving families and one very large step closer to certification with . Darla was so incredible at catering to different learning styles, answering the many, many questions our group came up with, and skillfully fitting SO much information into one weekend in a way that wasn’t overwhelming. I learned so much and was also affirmed in how much I already know.

Right after my son was born (in the very middle of COVID) my sister-in-law brought us homemade frozen breakfast burritos. They were incredible. Quick to heat up in the microwave, so delicious, nutritious, filling, a true chef’s kiss 💋

They are now a staple in our home. I make a batch almost every week. They’re also my go-to when I bring food to new parent friends and my number one recommendation for something to make my clients if they ask for ideas.

I’m not about to gatekeep this one! Recipe is below, enjoy ☺️ And let me know if you have any questions!

INGREDIENTS
🔹1 lb breakfast sausage
🔹1 lb bag tater tots
🔹9 eggs
🔹Large handful of spinach
🔹A bit of olive oil
🔹1 6oz bag thick shredded white cheddar (1.5cups)
🔹1 pack of burrito tortillas (if you have a pack of 8 you might want to add a couple extra eggs)
🔹Parchment paper sheets
🔹Rubber bands

DIRECTIONS
🔹Bake tater tots then add to a large bowl.
🔹While tater tots are baking, cook breakfast sausage in a skillet, then add to the large bowl.
🔹Scramble eggs in a small bowl.
🔹Chop and saute spinach in olive oil then add eggs to the pan and scramble. Once cooked add to the large bowl.
🔹Add shredded cheese to the large bowl.
🔹Mix all ingredients together then scoop onto tortillas and make burritos! Wrap burritos in parchment paper (not foil, so you can heat in the microwave) and put a rubber band around them.
🔹Put in the freezer until you’re ready to eat them!

To prepare: remove the rubber band (save it for the next batch), microwave for 1 min each side. Enjoy ♥️
