It was sad to see the old Ihatedialysis message board go to the wayside. It was started by a dialysis patient who went by Epoman (R.I.P). He was a patient who got tired of what he had to say stifled. The board was quite popular in its day.

However I did manage to save a message board thread about diabetes and heart disease. It was our first hand experience. The thread was started 4 years ago and still looks relevant today. Since we've changed our diet we haven't looked back. It has been two weeks since my wife and I traveled to Omaha NE to try and hit a billionaire in the eye with our peashooters (ok, she might have been there more to see the sights - the zoo was very nice)

The following might give you an idea why many people are upset with Warren Buffett's investment style - and it doesn't just concern kidney dialysis. There is a pattern here (see beginning of blog)

Found out about these 'Community Dialysis Houses' for people who don't want or can't do Home Dialysis, but don't mind some self-care! I thought they were only in places like New Zealand, but Beth Witten at 'Home Dialysis Central' informed me there is at least one here in the US since 2009! It was suggested I summarize things a bit to get people interested in signing the petition below, so here goes:

Two Asks:

*The big ask is to see the for-profits DaVita and Fresenius busted up into something like small care coops – and more on co-ops.

*take away the nephs exemption to the Stark Law. The law says doctors can't profit off their patients - but with the exemption nephs can! The exemption appears to stifle innovations like Community Dialysis Houses. A neph is more likely to recommend a clinic he has a financial interest in, then a Community Dialysis House he may not have a financial interest in.



It was asked how the for-profits abuse people:

*short, violent treatments that damage the heart
*understaffed clinics, with staff that are under trained and overworked

*all of the above with prices that have been called 'the highest in the industrialized world'

I will mention NYT's best-selling author Tom Mueller has shown an interest in attending this Omaha event, author of 'How To Make a Killing' a book that takes a hard look at kidney dialysis. This isn't only a fight for the soul of kidney dialysis, but a thumb in the eye of the worst of monopoly power! (as Tom Mueller was asking at a zoom meeting, are we providing a road map to improve other areas of medicine?)

The rest of MI M.I. Mother's Keeper, of which I'm a part of, has also shown an interest in attending this event. They along with Tom Mueller and SEIU, the big labor union, were part of a DC Press Conference on January 31st in front of many of our federal reps. Dr. Rhonda Hamilton and M.I. Mother's Keeper also headed up a Feb. 29th 'Rally To Congress', which I attended, where we told our stories not only in front of the Capitol building but also at the offices of Federal Representatives Maxine Waters (CA) and Jason Crow (CO).

It would be nice to have a band for the meetup area in Omaha to draw people in. But you can also sign a petition:
