Hi everyone, Karina Association is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) or individuals looking to support adults with disabilities!

As many of you know, we're a nonprofit that provides community inclusion services for adults with disabilities (autism, down syndrome, other intellectual disabilities). Here are some quick facts about the position -

⭐️ Our home office is located in Timonium and we generally have activities throughout the Towson, Timonium, and Baltimore areas
⭐️ You must be excellent at working with individuals with unique needs and abilities! Our job is to support and uplift our clients so they can be apart of their communities
⭐️ High school diploma or GED required, but additional education or experience preferred
⭐️ Starting pay is $16.50/hour, but with the opportunity to make more per hour depending on how many clients you can manage
⭐️ Looking for people to work 9-3pm with our clients, plus additional hours needed to make their schedules, communicate with their families, etc (about 30-35 hrs/week total)
⭐️ Benefits are provided if working at least 35 hrs/week
⭐️ Must be experienced using email and Microsoft Word
⭐️ Must have a clean driving record and be able to use your personal vehicle to transport our clients (paid for your time and mileage is reimbursed)
⭐️ Most of our clients are active young adults and our daily activities range from volunteering at animal shelters to going to the Maryland Zoo to taking hikes at the park! We're always doing lots of new fun things, and we need someone who is physically active enough to keep up with our clients

One classic game that our group loves is musical chairs. It's easy to set up, inclusive, and fun! Both our staff and participants enjoy getting a little competitive, sharing some of their favorite music, and grooving around the chairs 😎 It's a great way to get everyone having fun together, regardless of ability.

Many of our participants here at Karina Association are on the autism spectrum. Autism looks and feels a little different for everyone, but individuals with autism may have unique sensory needs. It's important for us to support our individuals and their needs in whatever ways we can! Check out some common sensory concerns and possible accommodations for the individual -

Our participant, Chuck, recently came up with an idea for a self-advocacy group called "Talk & Listen". Chuck led our first Talk & Listen by discussing what disability and ability means to each of us.

Riley was inspired to create her own Talk & Listen presentation, and chatted with the group about family life and the Karina Program.

We look forward to more Talk & Listen groups hosted by our amazing participants!
