PTSD AWARENESS MONTH
June 2026, is National PTSD and Mental Health Awareness Month. The month is dedicated to raising public understanding, reducing mental health stigma, and connecting military service members, veterans, and civilians with life-saving trauma treatments.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a serious mental health condition triggered by experiencing or witnessing terrifying or life-threatening events. While it is heavily associated with combat exposure, anyone who endures trauma can be affected.
Some key symptoms to look for:
Intrusive Thoughts: Unwanted memories, nightmares, or severe flashbacks.
Avoidance: Trying to stay away from places, objects, or people that trigger memories of the event.
Negative Alterations: Changes in mood, persistent negative beliefs, or feeling detached from others.
Hyperarousal: Feeling constantly "on edge," experiencing trouble sleeping, or having angry outbursts.
PTSD is highly treatable, and evidence-based care has helped millions of veterans manage and recover from their trauma. We would like our Brother and Sisters in Arms to know, you are not alone in this silent battle, and many resources are available. If you or a loved one are struggling with trauma, the following resources are readily available:
The Veterans Crisis Line: Available 24/7. Call or text 988 and press 1, or text 838255 for immediate, confidential support.
U.S. VA National Center for PTSD: Explore evidence-based treatments, self-screens, and educational materials via the VA PTSD Program.
Local VA Resources: For residents in South Carolina, contact local regional hubs like the Columbia VA Health Care System.
Last but not least, if you struggling, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We have a VA accredited VSO who can get the assistance needed. You are not alone in this Fight!
