Our Tomah Area Montessori School (TAMS) is holding a fundraiser now until September 30th - and they are donating all the proceeds to the Tomah Food Pantry!

Your mental health matters during and after pregnancy.

Make sure to recognize these signs and seek support early:
- feeling sad
- lack of energy and motivation
- excessive worrying
- Sleeping or eating too much or too little
- difficulty in making decisions
- feelings of guilt, hopelessness and worthlessness
- non-specific body aches or pains

Poor perinatal mental health, including postpartum depression, is very common. And hard to cope with.

In fact, 1 in 5 women experience a mental health condition during pregnancy or in the year after the birth.

Remember: prompt mental health support can make all the difference.

Hayden Panettiere has passed away at just 36 years old. 💔

And while so many people will remember her from Heroes, Nashville, Remember the Titans and Scream, I think a lot of mothers will remember her for something else.

She talked about postpartum depression when far too many women were still suffering through it quietly.

After becoming a mother, Hayden was incredibly open about being deeply depressed, seeking treatment, and later about the complicated way postpartum depression, addiction and everything she was carrying became intertwined.

She helped put words to something our society still struggles to understand:

You can desperately love your baby and still be struggling.

You can be grateful for your child and still not feel like yourself.

Motherhood does not magically protect a woman from depression, addiction, trauma or mental illness.

And needing help does not make someone less of a mother.

Her cause of death has not been announced, so this is not a place for speculation.

But on a page where we have spent years talking about what mothers go through behind the beautiful pictures the hormones, exhaustion, breastfeeding struggles, postpartum recovery and mental health I couldn't let her passing go by without acknowledging the vulnerability she showed in sharing some of the hardest parts of her own motherhood journey.

Rest peacefully, Hayden. 💔

And may we continue doing one thing she repeatedly encouraged people to do:

Talk about it. Believe mothers when they say they're struggling. And never make them feel ashamed for needing help.

New bipartisan legislation could help expand access to innovative testing for patients at risk of developing preeclampsia. The Preeclampsia Risk Evaluation and Evidence-based Management through Personalized Testing Act, or PREEMPT Act, would provide state Medicaid programs with important guidance on using blood-based biomarker tests throughout pregnancy.

These tests can help healthcare providers identify patients at elevated risk earlier and make more informed decisions about monitoring, treatment, and care. With hypertensive disorders of pregnancy remaining a leading cause of maternal illness and death, improving access to timely and effective testing is an important step toward protecting pregnant patients and their babies.

We need your support to help advance this legislation and ensure more families can benefit from innovative tools that may improve preeclampsia detection and management.

A study in BMC Medicine finds that breastfeeding up to 12 months of age is associated with reduced infection burden and inflammation, as well as differences in metabolomic biomarkers and lipids, mediating much of these beneficial effects.
