What's happening here in Kansas with the H**p industry is a true example of why we need regulations and the laws need to be black and white!
As you all have probably heard, the State of Kansas performed several raids at stores across Kansas. These stores were issued warrants to seize money, products, and other items pertaining to the sale of THC products. If anyone has followed this business, the 2018 Federal Farm Bill made h**p legal to grow and h**p products legal to sell as long as they are compliant with the percentage of THC measured at dry weight from harvest.
Over the last several years, science has introduced us to several new cannabinoids in the h**p and cannabis plants. This is one reason the h**p business has been growing (no pun intended). As science shows new possibilities, people get more aware of alternative medicine and are willing to try other options. This does open up the possibility of certain products getting into the wrong hands. Just because kids can get into their parents liquor cabinet does not give the right to the KBI to raid liquor stores.
This is what the root cause of these raids is. Children go their hands on some products and the police were involved. I cannot vouch for the other stores that got raided, but we at Sacred Leaf, ALWAYS card people. However, even if the customer is not carded, these products are not illegal for minors to purchase or have. While I do not agree with this rule, if the police or public wanted this rule to change, we have lawmakers for this reason.
Whether you use h**p products or feel they should be illegal, you should agree that unless the laws state otherwise, businesses like ours should not be infringed upon due to the negligence of others. We will pursue our legal rights and push for an injunction to allow us to continue to operate until the lawmakers deem otherwise. Please feel free to share this along as we continue to fight for our right to do legal business in Kansas.
