We’re kicking off a new Sauna Builder Spotlight series featuring builders who are doing great work and helping keep sauna craftsmanship strong here in North America.

First up: Storm Juntti of Esjay Saunas in Ishpeming, Michigan.

Storm grew up around sauna, comes from Finnish roots, and started his business after building his first mobile sauna out of his backyard — much of it through a northern winter.

Today, he focuses on the details that make a sauna work as good as it looks: proper bench height, ventilation, quality materials, comfortable lighting, and the right heater.

Storm also shared why American-made products matter to him:

“Knowing that the stove is built in America is very important, knowing that we are supporting our economy as well as supporting local families…”

A Kuuma BluFlame on a pontoon sauna.

Jeff and Susan picked up one of the first Small Kuuma BluFlame sauna stoves from our plant about three years ago. The original plan was to use it in a future cabin sauna.

But instead of waiting for that larger project, they put it to work in a pretty creative setup:

A pontoon tent sauna.

Jeff shared:

“This is our third tent sauna, but by far has the best heat, steam, clean burn, and aesthetics!”

He also said:

“The BluFlame burns so cleanly that it is impossible to know there is a fire going unless you look at the chimney cap to see the heat rippling from it.”

Radiant heat is part of every wood-fired sauna stove.

But good sauna heat is not about blasting as much direct heat into the room as possible.

The Classic Kuuma Legacy was designed to produce strong, steady wood-fired sauna heat while helping manage the harsh side and rear radiant exposure that can come from a heavy steel stove.

The insulated side and rear shields, built-in air space, firebrick-lined firebox, stone mass, and proper installation all work together.

A stove cannot fix poor sauna design.

But a well-designed stove can make a good sauna design work better.

Strong heat.
Controlled heat.
