Mission readiness starts with people.

Behind every strong healthcare system are dedicated professionals who bring expertise, compassion, and purpose to their work each day.

This Labor Day, we recognize the individuals who show up each day to strengthen military and federal healthcare and help ensure those who serve our nation receive the care they deserve.

From delivering care at military treatment facilities to ensuring the operations behind the scenes run seamlessly, every member of the SHR team plays an important role in advancing readiness and sustaining quality care.

To our entire SHR team, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and the meaningful difference you make each day. Happy Labor Day!

Every career journey brings experiences that shape how we understand and support others. For Aliyah Meehan, HR Consultant at Dumfries Ambulatory Care Center, a career that began in nursing continues to influence how she serves the SHR team today. 🌟

Before transitioning into Human Resources, Aliyah worked in several nursing roles and discovered mental health nursing while working as a travel nurse. What began as a new professional opportunity quickly became a calling; one inspired by her desire to better understand mental health and support members of the military community facing complex challenges.

At Dumfries, Aliyah worked alongside an integrated mental health team that emphasized collaboration and a whole-person care for patients and their families. Through that experience, she saw the difference empathy, attentive listening, and coordinated support can make in a person’s life.

Although her role has changed, her commitment to people has not. Today, Aliyah brings compassion, perspective, and understanding developed through her nursing career to Human Resources, where she supports the professionals who carry SHR’s mission forward every day.

Her story is a reminder that supporting others can look different across roles — and that sometimes, it starts with taking the time to listen, understand, and recognize when someone may need support.

Thank you, Aliyah, for demonstrating that care can take many forms, and that every role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference. 💙

Back to school. Back to routine. Back to readiness.

Every August, families prepare for a new school year — new schedules, new routines and, sometimes, a new community altogether.

It's a reminder that readiness doesn't happen overnight.

It's built through preparation, support, and the ability to adapt.

The same is true in federal healthcare. Healthcare organizations continually navigate changing patient needs, evolving requirements, and workforce demands.

Meeting those challenges takes more than reacting when a need becomes urgent. It takes people who are prepared, adaptable systems, and partners who understand the mission behind the work.

At SHR, we believe stronger healthcare systems are built through strong partnerships: bringing together the people, clinical expertise, and operational support needed to maintain continuity of care and sustain readiness.

Because readiness isn't just about being prepared for what's next. It's about having the right people, systems, and partners in place when they’re needed most.

At SHR, our mission is carried forward by compassionate healthcare professionals who dedicate their careers to serving others. 🌟

Carol Byrne, a Telephone Triage Registered Nurse and Care Coordinator at the Dumfries Ambulatory Care Center, brings that mission to life every day.

With nearly four decades of nursing experience, Carol helps patients understand their healthcare needs, navigate next steps, and feel heard and supported. Her clinical expertise, attentive approach, and genuine compassion reflect the exceptional care our patients deserve.

As a military spouse of 30 years, Carol also brings a personal understanding of the experiences and challenges unique to the military community. That connection shapes how she builds trust and provides meaningful support to service members, veterans, military retirees, and their families.

Thank you, Carol, for your expertise, compassion, and steadfast commitment to those you serve. You truly embody what it means to be Driven by Mission and Defined by Care.

Readiness is built through the choices we make every day.

Today’s public health guidance continues to reinforce the importance of everyday habits — from what we put on our plate to how we hydrate, move, rest, and recharge. These choices can play an important role in how we feel, perform, and show up for what’s ahead.

As the season begins to change and routines shift, it’s a natural opportunity to reset and build habits that help fuel your day.

A balanced meal. An extra glass of water. A few minutes of movement. Time to rest and recharge.

Small choices, practiced consistently, can help build a stronger foundation for the health, well-being, and resilience that readiness depends on.

For our Warfighters, Veterans, their families, and the healthcare professionals who serve them, taking care of yourself is part of supporting the mission.

Fuel your day. Build your readiness.

What’s one small habit that helps you feel ready for the day ahead?

At SHR, we’re proud to recognize the individuals who bring dedication, compassion, and purpose to their work — and to the communities they serve. ⭐

Meet Alycia Ward, Senior Credentials Coordinator at SHR, whose commitment to supporting others extends well beyond the workplace.

When her daughter joined Girl Scouts, Alycia saw an opportunity to get involved and give back. Four years later, she continues to serve as a troop leader, helping young girls build confidence, develop leadership skills, and find a sense of belonging.

Through mentorship, community service, and creating a space where each girl can be herself, Alycia has found that the lessons she learns with her troop — patience, empathy, and the importance of truly listening — also shape how she supports her SHR colleagues.

Alycia's story reminds us that meaningful impact often starts with a willingness to show up, encourage others, and take that first step.

Thank you, Alycia, for making a difference at SHR and in your community. ✨
