→→→ I want to tell you what I see when someone's blood sugar stabilizes.

Not because I want to oversell anything. Because I think most people have forgotten what it felt like before their energy started running this way, and they deserve to know it is possible to feel different.

❌None of this requires perfection.
❌None of it requires eliminating anything forever.
✅It requires understanding what is actually happening in your body and building an approach from that information.

That is what investigation makes possible. Not a guarantee. But a genuine direction.

📸A single fasting glucose value is a photograph of one moment.
🎥A continuous glucose monitor is a movie.

And the movie reveals things that no standard lab test is designed to capture.

CGM technology has moved from an exclusively clinical tool for type 1 diabetes management to something used increasingly in functional medicine to understand glucose behavior in real time across real-world conditions.

Two weeks of CGM data can change everything about how you approach your blood sugar.

🔎Normal bloodwork means nothing flagged as disease within the reference ranges of the tests that were run.

🚩It does not mean all relevant tests were run. Most standard panels do not include fasting insulin, HOMA-IR, the triglyceride-to-HDL ratio, adiponectin, or cortisol rhythm testing. These are not exotic tests. They are standard tools in functional medicine that simply are not part of routine care.

🚩It does not mean optimal function. It means no documented disease. Those are very different thresholds.

🚩And it does not mean your symptoms are not real or do not have a cause.

What I do is run the testing that asks different questions. Not whether disease is present. Whether function is optimal. Whether patterns that precede disease by years are already in motion.

💥The craving was never the enemy. It was the message.
And once you understand the message, you can address what is actually sending it.

💔What women often go through, before coming to me…

➔She has been tired in a way she cannot fully explain to anyone who has not felt it.
It is not the kind of tired that sleep fixes.
➔She sleeps, sometimes a full eight hours, and wakes up exhausted.
➔She needs coffee to start. She needs more by 10am.
➔By 3pm she is genuinely debating whether to cancel the rest of the day.

She has tried everything she could find to explain it. She cleaned up her diet. Multiple times. She cut gluten and dairy and sugar and then added them back when she did not feel significantly different. She has done the elimination diets and the gut protocols and the hormone-balancing supplements that worked for the woman in the YouTube video.

❌The weight does not move the way it is supposed to. The cravings come back. The energy never fully returns.

🤷🏻‍♀️Her bloodwork is normal. Her thyroid is technically fine. Her doctor told her to manage her stress. She asked what that meant practically and did not get a satisfying answer.
She is smart. She researches. She is not someone who has not tried.

She is someone who has been trying with incomplete information about what is actually happening in her body.

❌The women I work with are not broken.❌
❌They are not unmotivated.❌

They are running on a system that has been dysregulated, often for years, in ways that no standard panel has caught.

And when we actually investigate, there is almost always an answer.

1️⃣ The cortisol awakening response is too strong.
In the first 30 to 45 minutes after waking, cortisol rises sharply to get you moving. In blood sugar dysregulated individuals, this cortisol surge drives a large glucose release from the liver through gluconeogenesis. Blood glucose spikes, insulin responds, glucose drops. You feel anxious and hungry before breakfast because of a blood sugar spike and subsequent crash that happened before you got out of bed.

2️⃣The dawn phenomenon.
Cortisol and growth hormone in the early morning hours stimulate hepatic glucose production regardless of whether you are stressed. In insulin-resistant individuals, this morning glucose output runs higher than it should. Waking with elevated blood glucose then dropping can produce that disoriented, anxious feeling.

3️⃣Overnight glycogen depletion.
If your liver glycogen was already low going into sleep due to skipping dinner or eating very low carbohydrate, and your body needed to dip into that reserve during the night, you may wake with genuinely depleted blood glucose and the physiological urgency that follows.

4️⃣Nighttime cortisol elevation. When cortisol does not follow its natural evening decline, it continues promoting glucose production and adrenal activity through the night. You wake in the early hours, mind racing, and cannot get back to sleep. The anxiety on waking is often residual cortisol still running when it should have bottomed out.

If you have been managing this with anti-anxiety strategies or just powering through, the actual driver has probably never been addressed.

❌You are not a difficult case.
✅You are a person with a complex picture that has not been mapped yet.

There is a difference between a body that is genuinely resistant to improvement and a body that has been given interventions that did not match its actual physiology. Most people I see with long histories of trying things are the second case, not the first.

🕸️Blood sugar dysregulation is not one problem.

It is a category of problems with multiple overlapping drivers including:
📌cortisol
📌insulin resistance
📌hunger hormone signaling
📌gut microbiome
📌thyroid function
📌sleep architecture
📌hormonal cycle patterns

The number of possible combinations is significant.

A generic protocol addresses one or two of those. A personalized investigation addresses all of them in the right order for your specific body.

The people who come in saying they have tried everything have not, in most cases, tried an approach built specifically for their pattern. They have tried a series of general approaches that may not have matched their specific drivers at all.

That is not failure. That is the natural result of working without a map.

❌You are not hungry all the time because you lack willpower.

You may have dysregulated hunger hormones that are sending your brain the wrong signals regardless of what and how much you eat.

➔GLP-1, leptin, and ghrelin are the three most clinically relevant hunger and satiety hormones.

And they are almost never discussed, tested, or addressed in standard care, despite the fact that they govern the experience of hunger, fullness, craving, and satisfaction at every meal.

📌Save this one for anyone who has ever been told to just eat less.

Comment "CRAVINGS" to take the Cravings Root Cause Quiz. GLP-1, leptin, and ghrelin dysregulation all produce specific craving patterns.

The obvious things shift.
💥The afternoon crash eases.
💥The evening cravings quiet down.
💥Energy becomes more consistent and less dependent on caffeine and willpower.

But here is what my patients describe that surprises them most:

♥️Their relationship with food changes. The anxiety around meals, the guilt, the negotiating, the planning around cravings. When the physiology stabilizes, a lot of that noise quiets on its own. Not because of mindset work. Because the biological urgency driving the behavior is no longer running as loud.

♥️Their mood becomes more even. Blood sugar variability is one of the most reliable predictors of mood variability. When glucose stays in a tighter range, the emotional swings that most people blame on personality or hormones often stabilize significantly.

♥️Their sleep deepens. When blood sugar is not crashing or spiking through the night, the body can move through sleep stages more efficiently. Many patients report better dream recall, feeling genuinely rested, and waking without the cortisol-driven anxiety they had experienced for years.

♥️Their capacity for stress improves. Not because their life gets easier. Because a metabolically stable body has the cellular resources to handle stress without immediately dysregulating.

I never promise any of these specifically. But I see them regularly when the investigation is done correctly.

The goal is not just stabilized blood sugar. It is everything that becomes available when the physiology is working the way it was designed to.

❌Not all cravings are the same.
💥And treating them all the same is why most strategies fail.

There are three distinct craving types.

Each has a different:
✅origin
✅fingerprint
✅solution.

📌Emotional cravings:
➔Timing: appear in response to specific emotional states, stress, boredom, loneliness, anxiety, or right before bed as a comfort ritual.

➔Fingerprint: specific, often textural. The craving is usually for something creamy, crunchy, or a childhood comfort food. The feeling driving it is not physical hunger. You could eat other things, but you want that specific thing.

➔Root cause: nervous system activation seeking a dopamine reward to soothe dysregulation. The gut-brain axis is involved. Serotonin depletion from stress, poor sleep, or dysbiosis often underlies this pattern.

📌Metabolic cravings:
➔Timing: highly predictable, typically 2 to 3 hours after eating, at 3pm, or late evening. Follow a reliable schedule regardless of emotional state.

➔Fingerprint: carbohydrates, sugar, fast food. A physical urgency that can feel like shaking, irritability, or difficulty concentrating if not addressed.

➔Root cause: blood sugar instability, reactive hypoglycemia, insulin resistance, impaired GLP-1 signaling. The body is pulling the emergency cord for fast glucose because the fuel delivery system is unreliable.

📌Hormonal cravings:
➔Timing: cyclical in premenopausal women, most pronounced in the luteal phase, 7 to 14 days before menstruation.

➔Fingerprint: strong pull toward chocolate (magnesium and serotonin), salty foods (adrenal and aldosterone signaling), or high-carbohydrate comfort foods.

➔Root cause: progesterone-driven insulin resistance, declining estrogen and serotonin precursors, and magnesium depletion in the luteal phase.

The craving type tells you which system to address first.
