Communication Is More Than Spoken Words
Communication is about being able to express a need, make a choice, ask for help, request a break, share an interest, or tell someone “no.”
For some children, spoken language is one part of communication. Others may communicate through gestures, pictures, signs, or an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) system.
In ABA therapy, functional communication goals are individualized to the child. Teaching a reliable way to communicate can make everyday interactions clearer and give children more opportunities to express themselves effectively.
