Communication is a two-way street, and a few small changes can make conversations much easier for someone with hearing loss.

Try facing the person when you speak, getting their attention before starting a conversation, and reducing background noise whenever possible. Speaking clearly and at a natural pace is often more helpful than speaking louder.

Remember, hearing loss doesn't mean someone isn't paying attention—it simply means they may need a little extra support to hear and understand what's being said.

Good communication helps everyone stay connected, reduces frustration, and makes conversations more enjoyable for all involved.

As the new school year approaches, it’s a great time to ensure your child is ready to learn, grow, and connect with confidence. 🤩🎒

Hearing plays a powerful role in the classroom, from following directions to building friendships, and even mild hearing loss can make those moments more challenging.

A simple hearing check before school starts can make a meaningful difference in your child’s success and comfort throughout the year!

If your child has a dentist and an optometrist, it’s time to consider an audiologist! 🍎

This one is worth sharing with every parent you know. 👇
Researchers found that one in eight teenagers already shows measurable signs of noise-related hearing damage before they even finish high school.
Not older adults. Not factory workers. Teenagers.
The culprit is almost always the same, earbuds at high volume, for long stretches, every single day. The damage is gradual, invisible, and permanent. And because it happens slowly, most kids have no idea it is happening.
As a new school year starts and the earbuds go back in, it is a good time to check in. A baseline hearing evaluation takes less than an hour and gives you a clear picture of where your child's hearing actually stands.
Early awareness always leads to better outcomes. And this is one of those things that is much easier to protect than it is to reverse.
If you have been meaning to get this done, now is a good time. 🍎

A patient recently told me she had stopped walking outside the way she used to because it just did not sound right anymore. She didn’t feel safe. 💔

She described it as if she were walking down a hallway rather than a sidewalk. She didn’t realize that her hearing was going and that was why she felt isolated in her favorite hobby. She didn’t know that her hearing loss was what was making something that used to be so enjoyable, scary. She assumed it was just part of getting older or that something was wrong with her setup.

It made me think about how easy it is to slowly drift away from something you love when it no longer feels the same.

So we talked through what she was experiencing, then tested her hearing and reviewed how certain details, like higher pitches and clarity, are often the first to change.

We focused on helping her reconnect with those sounds so walking outside or running could feel full again.

The moment she described really stuck with me. Some of the joy of being in nature is hearing the sounds of nature. It may feel like the outdoors are quiet, but they are full of beautiful sounds if you just listen.

She did not lose her love for it. She just needed to re-experience it the way it was meant to be!

As routines shift into fall, it is a good time to check in on the things that bring you joy. If they are not feeling the same, there might be a reason, and that is something we can help with. 🫶

Happy National Dog Day from Sawyer and the team at Inman Audiology! 🐾

I've been thinking about this today: what is it about dogs that makes them so good at the thing humans sometimes struggle with most?

Being fully present.

Sawyer meets Bailey at the door every single evening like she’s been gone for a year, even jumping up and down like a bunny. He visited us at the office once and spent all day leaning against whoever was sitting on the couch. He had a great day!

There is no half-listening with a dog. No nodding along while thinking about something else. No missing the moment because you were distracted. 🐶

Sawyer's never missed a sound in his life, and I want that for every one of my patients.

Does your dog have a name? Drop it below! We want to meet them. 🐶⬇️

Myth vs. Fact: If I Had Hearing Loss, I Would Know It

Many people assume that hearing loss is something they would notice right away. In reality, hearing loss often develops gradually over time, making it easy to miss the early signs.

You may find yourself turning up the TV a little more than before, asking people to repeat themselves, or struggling to follow conversations in noisy places. Because these changes happen slowly, many people adapt without realizing their hearing has changed.

Regular hearing evaluations can help identify hearing loss early and provide peace of mind about your hearing health. If you've noticed even small changes in your ability to hear, it may be worth scheduling a hearing check.
