🤸‍♀️🍕⛳️🐶 Now THIS is a full day at Palm Bay!

The Palm Bay group kicked off the morning at Treasure Island, creating some colorful chalk art by the lighthouse before getting their bodies moving with a game of Pizza Tag! 🍕 Players balance a frisbee like a pizza, and if you drop your “pizza” or get tagged, you complete an exercise to jump back into the game. Today’s choices: 3 squats or 3 jumping jacks! 💪

After working up an appetite, the group grabbed Little Caesars for lunch and enjoyed their pizza at the park. Then it was time for some tabletop golf which quickly turned into everyone trying out trick shots in all kinds of creative places! 🏌️‍♂️⛳️😂

And because everyone completed everything on the calendar for the day, there was one final reward...a visit with Grayzlee the Frenchie! 🐶❤️

🐛🔦🎶 Creativity, Movement & Fun at Palm Bay!

The Palm Bay group had a day packed with hands-on activities! We got creative making colorful caterpillars out of beads and pipe cleaners, then put a recycled Pringles can and flashlight to work by projecting designs onto paper to trace. Talk about a creative way to reuse everyday items! ✏️✨

To get everyone moving, the group also enjoyed an Elvis-themed workout because exercise is always a little more fun with some rock ’n’ roll! 🕺🎵

❤️ DSP SPOTLIGHT: EMMA ❤️
Next up in our DSP Appreciation Month celebration is Emma, an Employment Specialist who joined Team RT four months ago!

Emma was inspired to become a DSP by the opportunity to help people who are underrepresented, and in just a few short months, she has already demonstrated what strong advocacy and person-centered support can accomplish.

Emma says one of the accomplishments she is most proud of is building trust and meaningful relationships with the people she supports. And according to her supervisor, she isn't afraid to go above and beyond when someone needs her in their corner. ❤️

Recently, an individual Emma supported had successfully obtained a job, but there was a major barrier threatening that success: reliable transportation.

The individual's team was considering closing his case because they had been unable to find a transportation solution.

Emma wasn't ready to give up.

She contacted the team and the employer and asked them to give her one week to find another option. When it seemed like every possibility had been exhausted, Emma continued advocating, problem solving, and searching for a way to help the individual maintain his employment.

THAT is what advocacy looks like. 👏

Emma’s supervisor describes her as kind, compassionate, creative and determined, sharing that she consistently puts the needs of the people she supports first. Her strengths include compassion, teamwork, creativity, advocacy, problem solving, and person-centered support.

🏁 Fun Fact: Emma worked at a racetrack from the time she was 9 until she was 18!

And when asked to describe RT in one word, Emma chose:

🛍️🔋💃 A Little Bit of Everything at Tongass!

The Tongass group had a busy day with plenty of choices! Some individuals headed out into the community for a trip to Marshalls, while others stayed back and worked on a practical life skill, learning how to change batteries! 🔋👏

Of course, we had to add some fun and movement to the mix with a little Zumba 💃🎶 before bringing everyone back together to finish the day with a few rounds of BINGO! 🎉

From community outings and independent living skills to exercise and social activities, it was a day with something for everyone!

❤️ DSP SPOTLIGHT: DAVID ❤️
Our DSP Appreciation Month celebration continues! Today, we’re shining the spotlight on David, an Employment Direct Support Professional who has been part of Team RT for 2 years!

David became a DSP because he wanted to help persons served find their voice, advocate for themselves, grow, and become successful. ❤️

One of David’s favorite parts of working at RT is the connections he builds with the people he supports. Whether he is working with students in Pre-ETS and Summer Youth or supporting individuals in Vocational Habilitation, he gets to see firsthand how much people can grow when they are given opportunities, encouragement, and the right support.

“Seeing how much they improve and grow, it’s very rewarding.”

David says the people he supports also have a way of making his day better and that connection is part of what makes this work so meaningful.

He is especially proud of the students who have completed Pre-ETS and Summer Youth, watching how much they grow and seeing the impact these experiences can have on their lives.

His supervisor describes David as someone who is dedicated to doing excellent work and providing person-centered activities. He finds creative ways to teach work skills, makes sure people feel included and know they matter, and consistently puts the people he supports first. His supervisor also recognized the patience David demonstrated while handling an especially stressful situation during Summer Youth.

His strengths include compassion, creativity, advocacy, communication, patience, problem solving, and person-centered support. ❤️

🏐 Fun Fact: David played college volleyball and is currently in his 8th season coaching volleyball at Russia High School!

Say cheese! 📸 John, Jessica, and Larenzo took a quick break during Voc Hab at Laurelwood Assisted Living to smile for the camera!

Every Monday, the group volunteers at Laurelwood, helping keep things neat and tidy while also having the opportunity to interact with residents and staff. It’s a great way to practice valuable work skills, build connections, and make a positive contribution to the community.

❤️ DSP SPOTLIGHT: COURTANY, EMPLOYMENT DISCOVERY SPECIALIST❤️

As we begin our celebration of our amazing Direct Support Professionals throughout September, today we’re shining the spotlight on Courtney, an Employment Discovery Specialist who has been part of Team RT for 4½ years! 🎉

Courtany became a DSP because she wanted a career where she could make a difference in people’s lives and help others reach their goals.

What does she love most about her work?
“I enjoy the people the most. I love being part of a team that works together to make a difference.”

For Courtany, one of the most rewarding parts of being a DSP is watching someone accomplish something they may not have believed they could do. She is especially proud of the relationships and trust she has built with the people she supports. ❤️

And those relationships clearly go both ways!

Courtany’s supervisor shared that people served specifically ask if they can work with Courtany. Her passion for the people she supports stands out, and she is constantly looking for opportunities to learn so she can provide the best service possible. Her strengths include compassion, reliability, leadership, creativity, advocacy, communication, patience, and dependability.

🎮 Fun Fact: When Courtany isn't at RT, she loves spending time with her family and she’s also a big gamer!

🥁💪 Drumming Our Way to a Great Workout!

Who says exercise can’t be FUN?! We’re getting our hearts pumping with some cardio drumming! 🎶🥁 Cardio drumming is a great way to get moving, work on coordination, and enjoy some music, all while getting in a great workout. And judging by the energy in the room, we’d say this is exercise done right! 😄

Officially, Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is September 13–19, 2026, a celebration recognizing the dedicated professionals who are at the heart of services and supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Throughout the entire month of September, we’ll be celebrating our incredible Direct Support Professionals by highlighting the many ways they make a difference every single day.

DSPs do so much more than provide support. They help people build independence, discover new interests, develop skills, work toward employment goals, become active members of their communities, make meaningful choices, build relationships, and experience opportunities that matter to them.

And because DSPs serve in so many different roles across RT, we want our community to see just how broad their impact is. Throughout the month, we’ll introduce you to members of our team, share a little about who they are, why they love what they do, and the services they help provide.

Behind every outing, new skill, employment success, community connection, personal accomplishment, and moment of independence is often a DSP encouraging someone to Explore. Empower. Engage.
