DID YOU KNOW?
The sartorious is the longest muscle in the human body? It starts at the hip, crosses the upper leg, and ends below the knee! The sartorius is primarily responsible for flexing, abducting, and laterally rotating your hip, as well as flexing the knee. It is a stabilizer muscle of the hip and thigh.
Also, called the "tailor's muscle," the sartorious is used when crossing the legs and going into the figure 4 pose.
If you have a weak sartorious muscle you may experience pain and tenderness along the inner thigh, when crossing legs, around the medial (inside) knee. Ask your physical therapist for good exercises to strengwell and stretch it. Massage therapy can help release the insertion points for relief as well.
