What a fun morning at Reid Park Zoo for the Tucson Walk to Cure Arthritis!

We had a great turnout from the Sol family, with several team members coming out to participate. We loved walking together and talking with providers and members of our community while supporting the fight against arthritis.

A huge thank-you to Jennifer Dougherty from the Arthritis Foundation for putting on an incredible event with such a wonderful turnout. Special shoutout to Dr. Macaraeg for inviting us and for being such an inspiration!

Events like today's walk raise awareness, help fund research toward better treatments and a cure, and build a community of support for people living with arthritis. We're grateful to everyone who showed up and proud to have been part of it.

A patient brought in these two dragons in Sol's colors to show his appreciation for the care he received from Savannah and Brandon. He also shared:

"Wicked awesome experience. The therapists stayed within limits but encouraged and pushed just enough. Savannah and Brandon make a great team. Definitely recommend."

We're grateful for the gift and the kind words!

We're excited to welcome the newest member of our Fort Lowell team -- Kurt Swaton, PT, DPT! ☀️

Originally from Michigan, Kurt earned his Bachelor's in Exercise Science from Albion College, where he competed in cross country and track & field, before earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Michigan-Flint.

Kurt has been an avid runner for nearly 20 years, and that experience gives him a firsthand understanding of the challenges runners face. He knows what it's like to deal with the aches, pains, and injuries that can come with training -- and how frustrating it can be when something keeps you from running.

That's why Kurt especially enjoys working with fellow runners, helping them address pain and injuries and get back to training, racing, and doing what they love. 🏃

Kurt also specializes in dry needling and treats a wide range of orthopedic conditions. His experience also includes working with patients recovering from stroke and those living with Parkinson's.

We're excited to have Kurt at Fort Lowell and can't wait for our patients and community to get to know him!

If you've never had a fall, it's easy to assume balance training doesn't apply to you. But for many active adults over 50, the biggest risk isn't what's already happened — it's what goes undetected until it does.

Balance changes quietly. Muscle strength decreases, reaction time slows, and the systems your body relies on become less efficient. Most people don't notice any of it until something feels off.

Jacob Jeppson, PT, DPT at our Fort Lowell clinic breaks down why balance training is one of the most important — and most overlooked — parts of staying active and independent as you age.

Dealing with pain but don't want to stop lifting? You're not alone — and the good news is that in most cases, you don't have to.

One of the most common mistakes we see: people either push through pain and make things worse, or they stop training entirely and lose the progress they've worked hard for. The right approach is usually somewhere in the middle.

In his latest article, orthopedic physical therapist Lucas Johnston, PT, DPT explains when it's safe to keep lifting, how to modify your workouts to stay in the gym, the warning signs that mean you should stop and get evaluated, and how physical therapy can help you return to training stronger than before.

If pain is limiting your workouts, read the full article here:

Is your young pitcher complaining about elbow or shoulder pain? You’re not alone — and the good news is that many of these injuries are preventable.

Here’s something most parents don’t know: the elbow is usually the symptom, not the cause. Throwing is a full-body movement, and when the shoulder, core, and hips aren’t doing their job, the elbow ends up paying the price.

In her latest article, our Chief Clinical Director Alicia Allie, PT, DPT, CHT breaks down exactly why young baseball players are at higher risk, the shoulder-elbow connection most people miss, warning signs to watch for, and how to get ahead of injury before it sidelines your athlete.
