This week, our Neonatal team had the privilege of attending the Arizona Society of Respiratory Care Annual Conference! 💙

We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect with colleagues, stay current with evidence-based practices, and continue learning from one another.

This year, Mona, one of our Respiratory Therapists was invited to speak on High Frequency Ventilation in the Transport Setting. Sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices allows us to continue growing as clinicians and, ultimately, make an even greater impact on the patients and families we serve.

Another successful conference in the books! We’re honored to be part of such an incredible community of respiratory care professionals. 🫁✨

In January, our neonatal team met Bennett at St. Joseph’s Phoenix where he was just born. The team was able to actively assist in stabilizing Bennett and prepare him for transport to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Bennett’s mom, Careesa, described the experience in her own words:

“Shortly after Bennett was born, his doctors informed us that he may not live. Bennett’s only chance of survival was to transfer to PCH, but he struggled to stabilize enough to make the trip. Two different times we were told to say goodbye, but by a miracle Bennett hung on. He was still in dire condition, but a small window presented itself for him to be transferred. Cue Mona and Ashley with Air Evac 1. Thanks to their precision and skill, he was safely transported to PCH.

Bennett hovered near death even after arriving at PCH. Although they didn’t have to, Mona and Ashley waited with Bennett to ensure he was stable while the doctors prepped him for ECMO. During this entire process, they were both compassionate and kind.”

We are pleased to report that after 4 months at PCH, Bennett was discharged home! He is thriving, growing, and finally where he belongs - with his family.

Stories like Bennett’s remind us why we do what we do and are honored to have played a part in his journey.

While on a medical transport mission, our pilot, Gianni, and crew overheard an emergency call over the radio. Being in close proximity to the distressed aircraft, Gianni was able to assist by using night vision goggles to help guide the pilot toward the safest possible landing area, identifying hazards such as power lines that were not visible to the other aircraft.

Throughout the event, Gianni remained calm, focused, and committed to supporting the pilot until a safe landing was confirmed.

Although he remains humble about his role in the outcome, we would like to recognize Gianni for his exceptional leadership, professionalism, and composure under pressure. His actions exemplify the dedication and commitment to safety that define our team.

As part of the original OB team that launched OB transport at Air Evac 40 years ago, Leann has helped shape the field into what it is today. Her dedication to evidence-based practice and commitment to exceptional patient care continue to inspire everyone around her.
