What you choose to focus on in your mind creates your experience in life.
When you focus on memories of your disappointments and failures you will feel miserable and insecure—and you will act that way too.
When you focus on memories of the “lucky breaks” and “silver linings” that have come your way you will feel happy and optimistic—and you will act that way too.
You can imagine the leadership implications of both ways of acting. Nobody wants to spend time with and learn from someone who is miserable and insecure. On the other hand, we all love to be around and learn from people who are optimistic and happy.
And it all comes from what you choose to focus on in your mind.
Remember, all of us have plenty of memories, both the good and the bad—but it is our choice of where to focus our mind that drives our feelings and behaviors. - Stuart Hughes
