Let's Think Big: Building the infrastructure community birth deserves
What would it take to ensure every person has access to community-based midwifery care—and what would it mean to build that future together?
On January 28, 2026, the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM) () and Uplift Lab at Oregon State University (Uplift Lab at Oregon State University) are launching Think Big: A Blueprint for Community Birth—a collaborative, two-year initiative to strengthen the infrastructure supporting community midwifery across the United States.
This virtual gathering brings together midwives and allies to explore five critical domains: Quality Improvement, Data Collection & Research, Workforce Development, Policy Reform, and Systems Integration. Through peer dialogue and shared expertise, we'll identify the biggest challenges, opportunities, and pathways forward for advancing birth justice and defending physiologic birth.
Supported by a $500,000 grant from Skyline Foundation, this initiative responds to the 2020 National Academies of Sciences report identifying community-based midwifery care as a key solution to the U.S. maternal mortality crisis.
