What's the difference between fascia and muscle fibers?
My response in vid, with more detail in description here:
Fascia surrounds and organizes muscle at every level—not just on the outside.
What I’m demonstrating here are the different layers of fascia (connective tissue) that exist throughout muscle:
• Endomysium – fascia surrounding each individual muscle fiber
• Perimysium – fascia surrounding bundles of fibers (fascicles)
• Epimysium – fascia surrounding the entire muscle
These are all forms of fascia—just described with more specific anatomical terms based on their location and function.
In my work, I often refer to the inner layers (endomysium and perimysium) as “infrastructure fascia,” and the outer layer (epimysium) as “structural fascia,” to help simplify how they function together.
Muscle fibers themselves are responsible for contraction and force generation, while fascia provides structure, transmits force, allows for glide between layers, and contributes to overall mechanical support and protection.
