On June 15th, IHCRC recognized World Elder Abuse Awareness Day by wearing purple. According to the National Center on Aging, 1 in 10 older adults will be victims of some form of elder abuse.

The Elder Justice Coordinating Council, a division of the Department of Justice reports that in 2025 scammers attempted to steal, or did steal, more than $2 billion from more than one million older adults in the United States.

Elder abuse isn't limited to financial exploitation; it can take many forms such as:
Physical Abuse
Emotional or Psychological Abuse
Neglect
Sexual Abuse

Submit your artwork at the IHCRC's Behavioral Health Department at 550 S Peoria, any Culture & Creativity event, or you can upload your artwork at www.ihcrc.org/contest.

Elder abuse is a serious issue that affects millions of older adults each year, yet many cases go unreported.

Abuse can take many forms, including physical abuse, psychological abuse, financial exploitation, neglect, abandonment, and sexual abuse. Recognizing the signs and speaking up can help protect vulnerable elders in our families and communities.

Everyone deserves to age with dignity, safety, and respect.
