The Oxley College of Health Sciences is The University of Tulsa’s newest college, bringing together the School of Nursing and the Departments of Kinesiology and Rehabilitative Sciences (Athletic Training/Exercise & Sports Science) and Communication Sciences and Disorders (Speech-Language Pathology). Additionally, the college houses TU’s faculty of Community Medicine and will advance the university

’s strong partnership with the Laureate Institute for Brain Research. Interdisciplinary study is key to the College of Health Sciences, where students and faculty are encouraged to collaborate with other departments – and other colleges – to uncover solutions. Oxley College students can learn from their peers in engineering, law, psychology, computer science and business. Off campus, representatives from the college are encouraged to make a difference in the community where healthcare needs are many. Service learning is an important facet of a TU education, and health sciences is a field where a university can be a change agent.

Professor of Biology Charles Brown has earned one of UTulsa's most prestigious recognitions: the Outstanding Teacher Award! 🌟

Charles Brown has held a tenured position at UTulsa since 1994. Prior to that, he taught for 13 years at the University of Nebraska and Yale University. He received his doctorate from Princeton University.

At UTulsa, Brown has taught extensively in the Department of Biological Science and mentored countless undergraduate and graduate students, as well as many postdoctoral advisees. Brown encourages students to learn science by “doing science” and challenges students to make connections with their knowledge.

✏️ Here's what students say about Professor Brown:

“[He] is the most talented teacher I’ve ever had. From both classes and time together in the field, Dr. Brown trained me to think like an ecologist.”

“After spending any time with Dr. Brown, you come out more knowledgeable, more thoughtful, and most importantly a more skilled critical thinker that can be used in all aspects of life.”

“I found Dr. Brown to be two things: one, a wealth of knowledge, and two, someone who wanted me to find the answer.”

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from TU and stepping into a charge nurse role early in her career, Jessika Evans knew she wanted to keep growing as a leader while continuing to work full time.

In TU's online Master of Science in Nursing program, she found the same mentorship, support, and challenge that first shaped her as a nursing student while building the confidence and skills to expand her impact. 💙🌀
