Horses are herd animals by nature. They love each other deeply and feel real emotional distress when they are separated. Whether by death, being moved, weaned, sold, - it is difficult for them. Sometimes that is all it takes for a sickness, ulcers, colic, etc to occur.
Never forget that your horse came to be among the noblest of creatures on earth. Which is to say they have deep loyalty, feel love passionately and extend honesty in their interactions. Separations beyond their control can have a profound affect on them. So if you know its happening, hug your horse and give them some latitude. Pay attention to thier needs and just be there for them.

Did you know that babies born to broodmare carrying EPM (or lyme) are often born carrying it also? Having raised over 400 foals I can attest that it is a very detrimental situation. Years of experience has taught us to be proactive, that treating the mare while pregnant is necessary, and that treating the baby is hugely helpful before you actually see clinical signs.
Not everything is safe to use during these times to treat but herbs are. Our 90+ day protocol is not only safe but it will keep you from being heart broken for your foal. They usually show signs at 6-8 weeks and get progressively worse over time. Early proactive prevention goes a long way to insure that you have a healthy foal.
