One of the most common things I hear from patients is:

“I thought this was normal.”

They thought it was normal to be exhausted by 2 PM.

Normal to need caffeine just to get through the day.

Normal to wake up tired despite getting a full night’s sleep.

Normal to struggle with brain fog.

Normal to have cravings.

Normal to gain weight despite eating well and exercising.

Normal to feel like they’ve lost their spark.

And while these symptoms may be common, they aren’t necessarily normal.

One of the things I love most about functional medicine is helping people understand that symptoms are often the body’s way of asking for help.

Fatigue, poor sleep, weight loss resistance, cravings, and brain fog don’t happen for no reason.

There is often an underlying imbalance contributing to how you’re feeling.

The good news?

When we identify and address those imbalances, people often start feeling like themselves again.

And that’s my favorite part. ❤️

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I thought this was normal”?

When I first started learning functional medicine, I’ll admit I was skeptical.

The idea that supporting my adrenals with supplements and lifestyle changes could have such a profound impact on how I felt seemed almost too simple.

Really?

I wasn’t convinced.

But then I became the patient.

I was exhausted.

I was told it was just my stage of life.

I was raising young kids, working, and assumed this was simply what adulthood felt like.

Then I went through adrenal treatment myself.

My energy improved.

My sleep improved.

My anxiety improved.

I stopped feeling like I was just surviving the day.

I became a believer because I lived it.

That’s why helping patients with fatigue has become one of my favorite things to do.

Because losing your spark isn’t a normal part of getting older.

You don’t have to live that way.

Take care of yourself the way you take care of everyone else. ❤️

One of the most common things I hear from my patients is:

“I’m finally doing something for me.”

And it’s often said with a little bit of guilt.

As if taking care of their own health is somehow selfish.

But in the same breath, they’re also giving themselves permission.

Permission to invest in themselves.

Permission to prioritize their health.

Permission to have more energy.

Permission to feel better.

The truth is, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Taking care of yourself doesn’t mean you care less about everyone else.

In many ways, it allows you to show up better for the people who need you most.

So if you’re in a season where you’re finally choosing to invest in your health, don’t feel guilty about it.

You deserve the same care, attention, and compassion that you so freely give to others. ❤️

I have a confession…

I’m addicted to caffeine.

Even when I’m not tired, I want caffeine.

It’s become part of my routine, and if I’m being honest, I often reach for it before I even stop to ask myself if I actually need it.

Lately I’ve been feeling more tired, and while there are likely several reasons for that, I started wondering if my dependence on caffeine might actually be contributing to the problem.

So yesterday I made the decision to kick it.

No coffee. Just green tea.

This morning I kept things simple:

💧 Water first

☀️ 5 minutes of morning sunlight

🌿 Green tea

📵 No phone

That’s it.

Not an hour-long morning routine.
Not meditation.
Not journaling.
Not a cold plunge.

Just 5 minutes.

The truth is, over the last couple of years, some of the habits that helped me feel my best have been compromised. Between raising kids, running a business, and all the demands of everyday life, some of the basics have slipped.

What I love about health is that sometimes we don’t need another supplement, another diet, or another complicated plan. Sometimes we simply need to return to the habits that we know help us feel our best.

Morning sunlight helps support your circadian rhythm, energy, mood, hormone balance, and sleep quality. It’s one of the simplest things we can do for our health, and it’s completely free.

What’s one healthy habit you’re trying to bring back into your routine?

The habits that improved my health have been slipping…

Lately, I’ve noticed I’ve been feeling a little more tired.

Nothing dramatic. But enough to know something is off.

And whenever that happens, I know it’s time to pay attention.

As I started thinking about it, I realized some of the habits that helped me regain my health have slowly been slipping.

I’ve been working through lunch.

Eating breakfast while getting the kids ready and out the door.

Checking off tasks while eating instead of actually sitting down and enjoying my meal.

One of the things functional medicine has taught me is that digestion isn’t just about what you eat—it’s also about the state your body is in when you eat it.

When we’re stressed, distracted, or rushing, our bodies aren’t focused on digesting and absorbing nutrients.

So this week, I’m getting back to one simple habit:

Before I eat, I’m going to put my phone down and pause.

Just 60 seconds.

Take a breath.

Slow down.

Put away the distractions.

The great thing about where I am today is that I’ve become so in tune with my body that I can recognize when something isn’t serving me before it turns into a bigger problem.

Health isn’t about being perfect.

It’s about noticing when you’ve drifted and gently getting back on track.

Over the next couple of days, I’m going to share some of the simple daily habits that helped me regain my health—and the habits I’m focusing on again now.

Sometimes the biggest changes come from getting back to the basics. ❤️

Anyone else need this reminder today?

Meet Brittney. ❤️

Brittney is just 4 weeks into her adrenal program, and she’s already seeing some incredible changes.

✔️ Down 7 pounds
✔️ Down 3 inches
✔️ Down 1.5% body fat
✔️ Sleeping better
✔️ More energy throughout the day

So what’s her secret?

There isn’t one.

Brittney was already walking and attending a weekly weight training class when she started working with me.

Together we focused on building consistency and supporting her body from the inside out.

We added:
💪 One 30-minute personal training session each week
💪 One additional weight training day on her own

She has also done an amazing job following her anti-inflammatory nutrition plan.

And while the scale changes are exciting, I’m just as excited about the improvements in her sleep and energy.

Her supplement program is focused on supporting and healing her adrenal function, helping her body move out of survival mode and back toward optimal function.

This is what I love about functional medicine.

When we address the underlying imbalances and combine that with strength training, nutrition, and lifestyle habits, the body often starts responding in ways that previously felt impossible.

I’m so proud of the work Brittney has put in over the last month, and I can’t wait to see what the next few months bring. ❤️

Unpopular Opinion:

☀️ Summer is actually one of the BEST times to start taking care of your health.

Most people tell themselves they’ll start in the fall.

But when I think about it, summer naturally supports so many healthy habits.

🌱 We garden.
🚶 We walk more.
🚲 We ride bikes.
🚤 We spend time out on the boat.
🌿 We kick off our shoes and get our feet in the grass.
🍓 Fresh fruits and vegetables are in season.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 We spend more time outside with the people we love.

Healthy living doesn’t have to mean following a strict diet or spending hours in the gym.

Some of the most powerful habits are often the simplest:
✔️ Moving your body daily
✔️ Eating fresh, seasonal foods
✔️ Getting sunlight
✔️ Spending time in nature
✔️ Making time for things that bring you joy

I tell my patients all the time—I don’t care how you move your body. I just want you moving it.

So if you’ve been waiting until summer is over to get started…

Maybe don’t.

This might actually be the perfect season to begin. ☀️

What’s your favorite healthy summer habit?

YES. There is dirt in my face.

For a couple hours, it felt like the old days ❤️

This is my husband Matt and me.

He was actually the one who got me into cycling years ago. Before kids, we rode together all the time.

Today was only our second ride together on our road bikes in the last seven years.

A huge thank you to my cousin Jill for taking the kids so we could sneak away for a ride.

I’ll be honest—I had work I could have been doing. My to-do list is never empty.

But this did more for me than checking off another task.

One thing that surprised me was my stamina.

We rode 19 miles, and I felt strong the entire ride.

I haven’t spent much time on my bike lately, but I have spent the winter lifting heavy. And today was a reminder that all of that work has paid off.

I was honestly shocked at how well I rode.

Sometimes we get so focused on the next thing we need to do that we forget to make time for the things that fill us up.

Today reminded me how much I love being on two wheels.

And for a couple hours, it felt like the old days. ❤️

One of the best investments you can make in your future health?

Strength training.

Muscle supports metabolism, blood sugar regulation, bone health, balance, and healthy aging.

It’s never too late to start.

06/04/2026

A little reminder for today. ❤️

We often focus on how far we still have to go and forget to look back at how far we’ve come.

Growth doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes it’s found in the small choices, the daily habits, and the consistent steps forward.

Be patient with yourself.

You’re growing.
