During the summer, it can be easy to get distracted by the chaos of camps and rambunctiousness on road trips. However, it is the perfect opportunity to slow down and have meaningful connections with your family. While school and work can make it hard to find time to spend together, summer allows for more chances to bond.

As we head into summer, here are a few ideas on how to have a balanced break from school and work! It might seem simple, but each of these aspects of life factor in to our mental health!

Sleep: While there is more flexibility for sleeping in and staying up late, it is important to rest!

Screen Time: Screen time increases when we have more time on our hands, so understanding that can help you prevent spending too much time scrolling!

Water: Summer is when everyone is outside swimming, but make sure you are hydrating to accommodate for the heat and increased physical activity!

Routine: Relaxing is what summer is for, but preserving a form of structure to your day will help you be more successful when it comes time to head back to school or the office!

Solace will be closed for Memorial Day! We want to take a moment to thank all the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedom, it is something we will never take for granted. We also want to acknowledge the people who are missing a piece of their family, and courageously battle the grief that it comes with every day.

We’re so proud of Holly Haswell for recently having the opportunity to serve and share her expertise at Grace Community Church’s Dover campus, helping answer important questions about anxiety and mental health.

Anxiety is something so many people face, yet it can often feel overwhelming and isolating. Holly did an incredible job offering practical insight, encouragement, and tools to help people better understand anxiety and how to navigate it in healthy ways. She shared how counseling can provide support, clarity, and hope for those who may be struggling, while reminding everyone that they do not have to face anxiety alone.

At Solace Counseling Center, we’re passionate about helping individuals and families find healing, peace, and practical strategies for life’s challenges. We’re thankful for opportunities like this to partner with our community and help bring conversations about mental health into the light.

Thank you, Grace Community Church Dover, for creating space for these meaningful conversations and for allowing Holly to be part of it!

As a student, graduation is where you get to see all your hard work paid off. Hours spent studying or practicing your sport have come to an end and it’s time to celebrate! As a parent, you’ve packed the lunches and drop your kids off at school. Now, you are planning parties and marking your calendars for freshman orientation. It’s important to find joy amidst the business, but also allow yourself to feel grief for the chapter that is closing. At Solace, we want to encourage parents of graduates to be proud of the role you had in your child’s accomplishment, and enjoy yourself during this monumental moment.

Zach Herrin, LPC-S, recently had the privilege of serving on a panel at University Boulevard Grace Community Church, speaking on the topic of anxiety and how faith and evidence-based counseling can work together to help people navigate it well.

Anxiety is one of the most common struggles people face today, and it was an honor to be part of a meaningful conversation about finding hope, healing, and practical tools for moving forward.

Thankful to University Boulevard Grace Community Church for creating space for these important discussions and for helping break the stigma around mental health.
