Did you know your brain has its own lymphatic system called the glymphatic system? This system becomes more active during sleep to help clear metabolic waste, excess proteins, and inflammatory byproducts that accumulate throughout the day. Whoa.

Research suggests that poor sleep can:
🧠 Increase inflammation throughout the body
🧠 Reduce the efficiency of the glymphatic system
🧠 Increase stress hormone levels
🧠 Affect immune function
🧠 Contribute to fatigue, brain fog, and slower recovery

…and what is the most important thing to try to manage if you have lipedema or lymphedema or really ANY chronic disease? ❌INFLAMMATION!

🍃So, your Wellness Wednesday encouragement is to:

✨ Aim for 7–9 hours of sleep most nights
✨ Maintain a consistent bedtime and wake time
✨ Limit screen exposure before bed
✨ Keep your bedroom cool, dark, and quiet
✨ Get natural sunlight exposure early in the day

Want to learn more? Do some light reading from these references before 💤
* National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke research on the glymphatic system and sleep
* National Institutes of Health findings showing the glymphatic system is more active during sleep
* Sleep Foundation reviews on sleep and inflammation

Sleep tight!

Tips Tuesday!

Ever heard of “economy class syndrome?”

Me neither 🤣 but it is a real thing! Read or listen to this short video by yours truly 💕 PS Short intro, I’m Rachel, Tyler’s wife and keeper, passionate RN who loves all things education and healthcare 💜😘

“Economy class syndrome” is a ~fancy~ name for the increased risk of a blood clot to develop in your lower legs due to not moving during prolonged travel- whether by air or car.

‼️To decrease your risk of a blood clot during long periods of travel….⬇️⬇️

💥get up and walk every 1-2 hours

💥stay hydrated WITH electrolytes (more on that later)

💥if unable to walk, flex or pump your calf muscles 10-20x every 30 minutes!

💥💥and of course the golden rule…
WEAR GOOD COMPRESSION.

**Remember, there is no pump in your legs and the pressures are lower, so you’ve got to help move move move that fluid**

SAFE TRAVELS! 🚙✈️🚢

The image in the mirror is not the same, and you feel like your body doesn’t work like it used to.

The swelling keeps coming.
There are fresh scars, drains, and a port.
Your legs are heavy, painful, and covered in bruises.

But despite what you see on the outside, your lymphatic system continues to transport fluid, your immune system continues to protect, and your body continues to adapt, recover, and carry you through life.

Today, on this motivational Monday, choose appreciation over criticism. Your body deserves compassion for all that it continues to do.

FAQ FRIDAY!

Today I want to share some answers to a FAQ that we get asked a lot about: WHO we are and HOW/WHY did we get here?

Let’s start with the basics 👍🏻

🌷Kim has owned and operated A Woman’s Touch store located in Tyler, Texas for over 20 years. She is certified in mastectomy fitting and compression therapy. Her store, which also specializes in cancer survivorship, has been one of the leading resources for the East Texas cancer survivors.

((What most people do not realize, is that many breast cancer patients, are at an increased risk to developed lymphedema (swelling) in their arms. (We will educate on that another day 😉))

💜Tyler is a physical therapist that had been practicing in East Texas for 5 years in 2022, when he decided to obtain his certification as a lymphedema and wound therapist (CLWT). He has spent the last 4 years practicing in the home setting, as the only CLWT physical therapist in a 150 mile radius, which is how he and Kim crossed paths 💫

And THAT is how the Guardian Health Solutions magic started 🎆

(Not that I deserve an introduction 🤣, but I’m Rachel, Tyler’s wife, who has been an RN for 13 years and has an extreme passion for patient advocacy and education)

When you come to our store, you’re speaking with professionals who have dedicated their careers to helping others, combining clinical expertise with compassionate care.

In the upcoming weeks, I’m going to take some time to do little “bios” to introduce our team. There is absolutely NO WAY we could do any of this without the help of every. single. person. The coolest part is going to be sharing each staff member’s personal experience in navigating the healthcare world from billing and coding, to benefits and insurance, to education about disease processes.

Have a wonderful weekend. Please like and share our business pages. We are on a mission and we are just getting started 👏🏻🦋✨

✏️ Managing the chronic condition of lymphedema requires ongoing management of complete decongestant therapy (CDT).

🌱 One component of CDT, is the manual lymphatic drainage (MLD); sometimes also called “lymphatic massage).

MLD is a gentle hands-on 🤲🏻 technique that helps direct the flow 🔁 of the lymphatic fluid, back towards the normal drainage pathways so your body can get rid of the fluid 💦

❤️ MLD may temporarily reduce swelling, heaviness, and discomfort (and help you feel better!)
*make sure you find a therapist who is certified and trained as a certified lymphedema therapist (CLT)

❎ However, because your body continuously produces and collects lymphatic fluid, the benefits of MLD are temporary.

*BUT THAT IS OK!* You can learn how to perform regular MLD on yourself at home, and use in addition to your comprehensive treatment program, along with wearing compression 🧦, moving as much as you can 💃🏻, and taking care of your skin 🧴.

We know it can frustrating, overwhelming, and exhausting, and THAT IS OK. Everyday that you choose to do something from your treatment plan, is another day that you are moving forward and moving that lymph. 🫶🦋💜

☀️ Vitamin D: One of the Most Important — and Most Commonly Low — Nutrients in the Body

Did you know vitamin D functions more like a hormone than a vitamin?

Nearly every👏 cell 👏in the body has vitamin D receptors, showing just how important it is to your overall wellness!!!

✨So, then why is vitamin D so commonly low? 🤔⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

• More time indoors
• Daily sunscreen use
• Limited sun exposure during winter months
• Darker skin tones naturally absorb less UV light
• Aging decreases vitamin D production
• Certain GI conditions can reduce absorption
• Obesity can alter vitamin D storage and availability

🩺 Top 5️⃣ Physiological Roles of Vitamin D:

1️⃣ Immune System Support 🦠
Vitamin D helps regulate immune responses and supports your body’s ability to fight illness.

2️⃣ Bone & Muscle Health 💪🦴
It helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are essential for strong bones, teeth, and muscle function.

3️⃣ Mood & Brain Health 🧠🧘🏼‍♀️
Low vitamin D levels have been associated with fatigue, low mood, and seasonal mood changes in some individuals.

4️⃣ Inflammation Regulation ⚠️
Vitamin D plays a role in regulating inflammatory pathways throughout the body.

5️⃣ Hormonal & Cellular Function 🧫🧬
Vitamin D influences hundreds of cellular processes related to metabolism, tissue repair, and overall physiological balance.

🧡 Wellness Reminder:
Vitamin D is not just about bone health — it supports WHOLE-BODY wellness.

Talk with your healthcare provider about whether testing may be appropriate for you 🫶🏻🦋💜

Wellness habits, such as using red light therapy, taking epsom salt baths or wellness supplements, getting in the sauna or on a rebounder… can ✨compliment✨ -not replace- appropriate medical care. ⁣

Remember, everyone may not respond the same way.⁣

Make how you •FEEL• be the 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 thing you measure after making a change to your lifestyle. 🦋🫶🏻💜⁣

☀️Summer time is here which means so is the heat 🥵

To stay cool while wearing your compression garments, carry a small spray bottle and mist your garments to cool off 💦

Don’t forget your summer leisure mastectomy bra, with front closure. It’s made with 95% breathable cotton and is designed for activity.

Going swimming? Grab a beaded swim form and your towel and jump in 🩱🏊‍♀️

We all love Motivational Mondays! Meh not the Monday part 😂

Living with swelling conditions like lymphedema or lipedema can feel frustrating when the swelling returns day after day.
*But* that does NOT mean your efforts are failing!

The lymphatic system does not have a central pump ~so the fluid is ALWAYS going to return~ it’s your body’s natural process.

Your lymphatic system relies on movement, muscle contractions, breathing, compression, AND healthy pathways to help move lymphatic fluid throughout the body.

Because of this process, swelling management is often an ongoing daily process — not a “one-time fix.”

✨ EVERY walk, no matter how short
✨ EVERY compression garment you wear
✨ EVERY pump session, even just once a day
✨ EVERY self-care choice

…helps support the lymphatic flow and can help you feel better.

Some days will feel easier than others, and THAT IS OK.
Consistency matters more than perfection.

Give yourself some grace- YOU are a work of art in progress 🦋🫶💜
