There are far too many fathers and father figures who are behind bars or otherwise surveilled because of the racist, so-called "War On Drugs" — forced to miss holidays and time with their loved ones including their own fathers, kids, and grandkids — many times, without the chance to even meet their own children and grandchildren. We see you. We miss you. We'll keep advocating for you. We must end the so-called "War On Drugs."

Now, possibly more than ever, NHRC's Principles of Harm Reduction are necessary to ground ourselves with reminders of how and why we do the life-saving work we do. This International Harm Reduction Day and every day, we name the importance of embodying these principles and keeping those most impacted by overdose — people who use drugs — at the center of our work and heart of everything we do. We must move together, with people who use drugs leading the way.

Everybody should be able to access the care and support they need. We need to prioritize health solutions to drugs. Not the failed drug war playbook.
