Today is my last day with this sweet little herb shop. It feels like reading a good book, your on the last page and you don't want to finish it. It has been an amazing journey, I feel honored to have been apart of The Happy Herb Company. Ray Thorp, you have taught me a way of life, I will hold this lifestyle forever. I thank you so much.

My employee of 4 years will be taking over the shop. They will be adding abundance of organic bulk herbs and locally made herbal products, adding classes on herbs and nutrition. They also are planning to have a clinical herbalist available at scheduled times during the week for consultations. I believe this will be a great service to our community.

I'm off to start a new chapter of this lovely life.
Blessings from The Happy Herb Shop

Herb of the day: Angelica

Angelica Root is also known as Masterwort, Ground Ash, Holy Ghost Root, Archangel Root and Root of the Holy Ghost.
In Chinese medicine it is known as D**g Quai and is often referred to as ‘female Ginseng’ as it has been shown to affect estrogen.
It is believed that the plant’s name was derived from the fact that, according to the old calendar, it usually came into bloom around the feast day of the Archangel Michael, who appeared in a vision to explain the plant’s protective powers against evil.

Magical attributes are protection and exorcism. It is said to protect against negative energy and attracts positive energy. Use in healing & exorcism incenses and scatter for purification, protection, and uncrossing. Add to incense to promote healing or to the bath to remove curses, hexes, or spells. Also thought to promote temperance.

The Iroquois would infuse hot water with angelica root and, once cool, sprinkle on an area to clear out any unwanted spirits.

Herb of the day: Gotu kola (Centella asiatica)

Medicinal Uses:
Gotu kola has been important in the medicinal systems of central Asia for centuries. It was purported in Sri Lanka to prolong life, as the leaves are commonly eaten by elephants. Numerous skin diseases, ranging from poorly healing wounds to leprosy, have been treated with it, Gotu Kola is an excellent mental stimulant. It is often used after mental breakdowns, and used regularly, can prevent nervous breakdown, as it is a brain cell stimulant. It relieves mental fatigue and senility, and aids the body in defending itself against toxins. It also has a historical reputation for boosting mental activity and for helping a variety of illnesses, such as high blood pressure, rheumatism, fever, and nervous disorders. Some of its common applications in Ayurvedic medicine include heart disease, water retention, hoarseness, bronchitis, and coughs in children, and as a poultice for many skin conditions. It reduces scarring when applied during inflammatory period of the wound. It was found effective when applied on patients with third degree burns, when the treatment commenced immediately after the accident. Daily local application to the affected area, along with intramuscular injections, limited the shrinking of the skin as it healed. It prevented infection and inhibited scar formation.
