An incredible act of courage and compassion saved the life of an 8-year-old boy from Wisconsin.

Brayden Auten fell seriously ill in April after what began as a simple stomach ache rapidly turned into liver failure. His parents searched desperately for a compatible donor, but no family member matched. As his condition worsened and his liver completely failed, doctors faced an urgent race against time.

Enter Cami Loritz, a nurse in the transplant intensive care unit. Moved by Brayden’s story, she made a life-changing decision: she would become a living donor. On May 14, she underwent surgery to donate a portion of her liver to Brayden, who received the transplant the same day.

The operation was a success. Months later, Brayden met Loritz again in the hospital, now recovering and thriving. In a touching moment, he hugged her and called her his “big sister.”

Loritz has since used her experience to inspire others to consider living organ donation, showing how one selfless act can save a life—and change it forever.

Stories like this remind us that courage, compassion, and humanity still have the power to make miracles happen.
