🐴 Building Strength at the Trot

There’s a lot happening when a rider moves into a trot! Maintaining position with the horse’s changing rhythm encourages the rider to engage their muscles while working on balance, coordination, and body control.

Therapeutic riding gives riders opportunities to build strength and confidence while developing their riding skills.

And sometimes, all that hard work looks a whole lot like having fun. 💜🦋

Too hot to ride? That just means it’s time for a different kind of horse lesson! 🐴☀️

Today our riders learned how horses handle the heat. They practiced counting respiration rates, talked about sweating and how horses cool themselves, and learned what can happen when a horse gets overheated.

This sweet horse has anhidrosis, which means he doesn’t sweat normally and needs a little extra help staying cool in our Georgia heat. After checking his respiration, the kids helped cool him down with the hose — which he clearly thought was pretty entertaining! 😂💦🐴

Then they counted his respiration again to see how his body responded to cooling.

No riding today, but plenty of hands-on learning, horse care, and fun. ❤️ Sometimes the best horsemanship lessons happen with both feet on the ground!

After weeks of stall rest and not feeling his best with laminitis, Peanut Butter finally had a really GOOD day. 🥹🐴💛

With his inability to sweat, this Georgia heat has made things even harder for our sweet boy. But today the rain came, the temperature dropped, and Peanut Butter was feeling GOOD! 🌧️💕

Apparently, a little rain was all he needed to remind us that he’s still got plenty of s***k — because the zoomies came out! 😂🐴💨 Seeing him feeling good enough to kick up his heels again absolutely made our day.

And a HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteers who have been helping us keep Peanut Butter cool and comfortable through these incredibly hot days. Between cold hosing, fans, and lots of extra TLC, it has truly been a team effort. We are so grateful. ❤️

Go, Peanut Butter, go! 💛🐴

Meet Stretch! 💙

Our amazing volunteer, Mr. Lee, designed and built this new piece of equipment to help prepare many of our riders before they even climb into the saddle.

Stretch is designed for participants with hypertonia, a condition that causes muscles to be abnormally tight or stiff, making movement and positioning more difficult. Before riding, gentle stretching and positioning on Stretch help relax muscles and improve flexibility. Once on the horse, the horse’s rhythmic, three-dimensional movement continues to promote more normalized muscle tone, better posture, and improved movement for therapy activities.

And leave it to Carrie to jump right into the picture! 😂 Our resident photo bomber is always camera-ready.

A huge thank you to Mr. Lee for sharing his creativity, craftsmanship, and heart. Volunteers like him make it possible for our participants to achieve amazing things.

At just three months old, Matthew is convinced the world revolves around him. He spends his days pestering his mama and both of his aunties from sunrise to sunset.

Somehow, they still adore the little troublemaker...
..or maybe they’re just counting down to nap time. 😅

Good thing he’s ridiculously cute... because his survival depends on it! 🤣❤️🐴
