Start by focusing on where lice actually spread - from one head to another, not from classroom floors, furniture or things like headphones or backpacks.
For girls, keeping long hair contained in braids, buns or ponytails can help reduce head-to-head contact. For boys, a little hair product can hake it harder for lice to pinch onto a hair. Plus any scented hair product helps to "hide the smell of a juicy meal". Sounds kinda crazy but it's true!
