On the way back from a lovely hack, our OTTB Biggs was stung by a bee! 🐝
While Biggs was a gentleman through the ordeal, he politely let us know a bee was in his fly boot and had got him. (The bee tumbled out of the fly boot, when we looked so we knew with certainty what happened.) Biggs calmly took his friend and rider the rest of the way to the barn, but upon arrival, showed us that his leg was still hurting.
His rider, Connor, who is non-verbal but uses a talk to text device, advocated immediately— Biggs was stung by a bee! And we needed to get the stinger!
The concern for his equine friend was real- and Connor wasn’t leaving his side until Biggs was cared for. We explained we were cold hosing his leg for the pain, and without hesitation Connor gently took hold of the hose for Biggs and continued his treatment.
Being a horseman is a whole lot more than riding, and we are so proud of Connor for demonstrating true horsemanship today.
Biggs enjoyed some extra cookies and extra pampering and is expected to make a full recovery, thanks to Connor’s devoted care. 💛 We may call them riding lessons, but this is what loving horses is all about.
