June is PTSD Awareness Month.

At Project 5:9, PTSD isn’t just something we talk about. It’s something we have lived through.

We’ve faced the nightmares, hypervigilance, sleepless nights, strained relationships, and silent battles that linger long after the call ends. We know what it means to carry burdens others can’t see.

That’s why Project 5:9 exists. Not because we have all the answers, but because we’ve walked this road. We’ve felt isolated, exhausted, angry, numb, and hopeless. We also know healing is possible.

If you’re a first responder, veteran, dispatcher, corrections officer, healthcare worker, or anyone carrying invisible wounds, you don’t have to fight alone.

Seeking help isn’t weakness. It’s courage.

This month, we stand with everyone fighting a battle behind the badge, behind the uniform, and behind the smile.

Because awareness matters.
Because healing matters.
Because you matter.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2

THE JOURNEY TO WELLNESS…

“It seemed I had the World at my fingertips. 2 years before I had had a spiritual awakening that helped me see that God loved me just as I am. It was life changing. I was able to look back on the abuse and domestic violence that had knocked on my door at 19 when my husband tried to shoot me and find a bit of forgiveness. So here I was, creating a life with a good man (the first in my life) and I was having panic attacks daily, was feeling unexplained anger, and could scarcely function. Physically, I was a wreck. My blood pressure was sky high and I had gained about 30 lbs. What I did not know was that PTSD had reared its ugly head. I stepped out of a tiny, safe box in which I had lived for decades, and the back of my brain was saying, “HA! I DON’T THINK SO!”

That’s when I found Dr. McMillan (Leah) and EnSpire Counseling & Wellness…. And just like that, my journey to wellness began.

I cannot explain technically how it all went down, but I will tell you that from the moment I stepped into EnSpire, the fear of “counseling” left. The level of respect and love I have been shown each step of the way is mind blowing. I began a process of healing from trauma utilizing a specialized therapy modality called EMDR that allowed me to revisit, in my case for the first time, the trauma from the past and see it from where I am now. If you want to know more, please call them! It changed my life!

I am now able to think back on any part of my past without any guilt or shame. The millions of fears that tormented me daily no longer control me. I am now proactive instead of reacting to everything. I feel as if I matter, really matter. It’s because I DO.

This decision to reach out to EnSpire Counseling & Wellness and Leah is the most life changing decision I have ever made. Therapy is not for the weak. It’s been the hardest thing I have ever done. It’s been the most rewarding. I am so grateful to EnSpire and Leah for being there with me every step of the way. The level of professionalism and training of Leah, her colleagues, and her staff exceeds anything I could have imagined. I am so grateful to them all.”
