The medicine itself is not the healing.

What often becomes healing is the memory, meaning, and integration of the experience.

Insight alone is not enough. Transformation happens when we make sense of what was felt, seen, remembered, and understood, and gently bring it into our everyday life.

Healing is not only what happens in the moment.
It is what happens after.

What meaning have you made from experiences that changed you?

After , one part of you may want to leave.

Another part may still love them.

One part feels angry.

Another feels scared to regret the decision.

And maybe a part of you still hopes things can heal.

If this feels familiar, you are not “crazy” or weak.

You may simply have different parts of you trying to protect you.

Healing is not about rushing a decision.

Healing is about understanding yourself enough to trust the decision when it comes.

Save this for later if you are feeling torn in your relationship.

What if healing is not happening the way we think it is?

During my studies in EMDR and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy, I kept seeing something that challenged how I think about therapy.
Clients making connections I did not direct.
Memories surfacing unexpectedly.
Emotional shifts that somehow made sense.
And it left me wondering:

What if there is something inside us already trying to move toward healing?

I wrote a new blog about a concept that completely changed how I think about trauma, healing, EMDR, and ketamine assisted psychotherapy:

The Inner Healing Intelligence

Would love to hear your thoughts.

After more than twenty years as a therapist, I thought I understood healing pretty well.People come to therapy because something hurts.Anxiety.Trauma.Depression.Relationship struggles.Grief.We talk about it.We build insight. We teach tools. We connect dots.Sometimes I offer perspective or insight. We p...

Does your ADHD brain take the “scenic route” during EMDR?

Many individuals with ADHD process trauma differently. Instead of a straight path from memory → emotion → insight, the brain may rapidly jump between memories, emotions, sensations, and associations.

And that is not a bad thing.

ADHD brains are often highly associative, creative, and deeply connected, which can make EMDR feel more nonlinear, but also incredibly powerful.

New blog post now live on ADHD, trauma, EMDR, and why healing does not always happen in a straight line.

What You May Notice During EMDR Reprocessing
Many people think EMDR is about “thinking hard” or trying to remember every detail. It is actually the opposite. Your brain does the work on its own because the memories stayed unfiled and stuck in the system.

When something in the present carries a similar feeling or theme, the brain links it, and the body reacts as if the old moment is happening again. This is why you may notice emotions, sensations, images, or memories pop up during reprocessing. Your system is trying to make sense of old material that never got sorted.

EMDR helps the brain finally file these memories in the right place so the body can stop reacting to them as danger. This is why things often feel lighter after reprocessing. They are no longer stuck, and your nervous system does not have to stay on alert.

If you are curious about EMDR or want to understand what may happen in a session, save this post and reach out with questions.
