🌱 A huge thank you to the volunteers from Webster Bank who spent the day helping beautify one of our residences.

Last week, leaders from across New York visited the former Willowbrook State School campus—now home to the College of Staten Island—to reflect on a pivotal chapter in disability rights history.

The conditions exposed at Willowbrook sparked a movement that transformed how people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are supported, shifting from institutionalization to community-based, person-centered services. The Arc New York played a leading role in that change and remains committed to advancing the rights, dignity, and opportunities of people with disabilities.

As we reflect on how far we have come, we also recognize the importance of continuing the work. The lessons of Willowbrook remind us why advocacy matters and why every person deserves the opportunity to live a life of their choosing in their community.

We honor those whose experiences drove change and remain committed to building a more inclusive future for all. 🧡
