A few things I wish every client knew before they walked through my door:

šŸ«¶šŸ½You don’t have to apologize for your body
šŸ«¶šŸ½You are not a hot mess.
šŸ«¶šŸ½You don’t have to be good at relaxing.
šŸ«¶šŸ½You don’t have to know exactly what you need before you arrive.
šŸ«¶šŸ½It’s okay to cry.
šŸ«¶šŸ½You don’t have to endure pressure that feels like too much
šŸ«¶šŸ½You can be stressed out
šŸ«¶šŸ½Communication can help you get the most out of your session.
šŸ«¶šŸ½Pain is not always caused by tight muscles.
šŸ«¶šŸ½When the body and mind feel safe, they heal.
šŸ«¶šŸ½Massage and yoga therapy are preventative healthcare.
šŸ«¶šŸ½My job is to meet you where you are. We can start there.

There’s a difference between using massage or yoga therapy as an emergency rescue or intervention and using them as nervous-system maintenance. When you wait until your system is already highly activated (think stress, overwhelm, anxiety, muscle tension or pain), we’re essentially trying to help your system climb down from high alert to deeply relaxed in a short period. Then, we’re trying to catch up.

I wonder what would happen if we flipped that around. Instead of waiting until your body is saying, ā€˜I need help right now,’ we give it regular opportunities to experience relaxation, calm, and being pain and tension free before you get to that point. The goal wouldn’t necessarily be more massage and yoga therapy forever. The goal would actually be to help you get better at recognizing and accessing this settled and grounded state on your own.

Coming more consistently changes the goal from putting out fires to preventing the fires from getting so big in the first place.

The payoff?

-less time living in a high-alert state
-less accumulation of muscular tension
-less severe flare-up before treatment
-greater ability to recognize tension before it becomes pain
-potentially longer-lasting effects from each session
-teaching your nervous system what settled actually feels like
-eventually needing massage or yoga therapy as a rescue less often

Book your sessions on a regular rhythm or consider joining my monthly membership to make nervous-system maintenance a consistent part of your self-care vs emergency care.

After a long, unexpected week of storms, power outages, internet outages, cancellations, uncertainty, and a lot of discomfort and disruption here in our community, Sangha Center for Wellness is officially open again!

The lights are on. The internet and AC are Back. And I’m ready to welcome you back into this space.

Last week was a reminder how quickly life can get turned upside down and how much we all really rely on each other. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who checked in on me and my family, offered help, supported local businesses, and helped our community get through a tough week. It feels really good to return to some sense of normalcy and the things that bring us back to ourselves.

If you had an appointment disrupted by the storm, thank you so much for your patience and understanding. I’m working on getting everyone rescheduled and back into our normal rhythm. If you’ve felt frazzled, depleted, tense or just off after this last week, you are not alone. I’m here to help in the way that I can with massage and yoga therapy and helping you to rest and take an exhale. Sangha is open!

Jon Kabat-Zinn writes, ā€œThe little things? The little moments? They aren’t little.ā€ Those small choices, repeated over time, become the foundation of our health. They help us move through life’s transitions and busy seasons with greater resilience, calm, and presence.

As routines return this month, remember that your wellness routine doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful. In fact, it’s often the simplest practices that have the greatest impact because they’re the ones we can sustain. The ones that we can actually do.

That’s one of the reasons I created my monthly massage and yoga therapy memberships. They aren’t about adding one more obligation to your calendar. They’re about protecting one small, intentional amount of space each month that’s just for you. When your appointments are already scheduled (you can schedule up to 6 months out), caring for yourself becomes part of your routine rather than something you have to fit in when life feels less busy.

As we move into a busier season together, I hope you’ll remember that change is inevitable, but overwhelm doesn’t have to be, and that caring for yourself isn’t another item on the to-do list. It’s what gives you the capacity to care for everything else. Whether I see you for massage therapy or yoga therapy, I’m grateful to be part of your healing journey.

With massage and yoga therapy, I’m not just treating a tight muscle or a sore back. I look at the whole person. I ask: What’s happening in the physical body? What’s happening in the breath and energy? How is stress affecting the nervous system? What emotions are being carried in the body? Are your daily habits supporting healing? And what deeper purpose or values help you move toward the life you want? When we address all of these layers together, healing tends to be more complete and more sustainable. I’m not treating an injury. We’re helping the whole person return to balance, and meaningful lasting change often takes place over multiple sessions rather than in a single visit.
