Russ Pfeiffer Rolfing

Russ Pfeiffer Rolfing I am a Rolfer, anatomist, and movement educator. Visit russpfeiffer.com for more info or call to make an appointment. I continue to study regularly with Godard.

I grew up a regular American kid playing a variety of team sports - which I still participate in to this day. Although I enjoy the competitive nature of sports, I have always had a feeling that there was something missing. In an attempt to find balance I pursued martial arts and eventually found my way to Tai Chi. My continued interest in health and spirituality led me to study yoga and various fo

rms of bodywork. I earned a degree in Aviation from Florida Institute of Technology and after a ten-year career in commercial aircraft sales, I decided to pursue my life’s work in manual therapy, movement, and yoga instruction. I have studied extensively at various institutions including the Rolf Institute, the International Professional School of Bodywork in San Diego and the Esalen Institute in Big Sur. I am a certified rolfer and have two certifications as a rolf movement practitioner (with Monica Caspari of Brasil and Hubert Godard of France). My yoga studies, mostly through the Iyengar system, have nonetheless been comprehensive and diverse within a variety of styles. I have studied with numerous teachers including Richard Freeman, Dona Holleman, Shandor Remete, Rodney Yee, Manouso Manos and Lisa Walford. I have taught at studios in the Los Angeles area, including Yoga Works and Santa Monica Yoga. My method of teaching yoga is grounded in sound anatomical understanding of the body and integrates other movement modalities such as Tai Chi, Feldenkrais Method, Alexander Technique and Continuum Movement. I currently live in Venice Beach, California, where I have a private practice working with individuals through rolfing, movement and yoga therapy. I currently conduct independent advanced yoga and movement trainings. I teach workshops for studios throughout the southwest and experiential anatomy classes for Yoga Works Teacher Training and other teacher trainings throughout the US . I lecture regularly on the evolution of human movement for the Anthropology Department at LA City Community College. I have taught at University of California Irvine and the Rolf Institute.

What is Structural Integration/Rolfing? For me it is the 10 series recipe developed by Dr. Rolf. What is Structural Integration/Rolf movement? For me it is a movement re-education process that supports the 10 series protocol. Please join me as I present my version of Structural Integration/Rolf movement at the IASI 2024 SYMPOSIUM.

This Saturday I will examine the 10 series design and progression as it applies to human gait. Using walking as a blueprint, I will break down the 10 series SI recipe and relate how each individual session is contained at a specific moment in one single step. My hope is that this outline will provide SI practitioners with a practical perspective to support each individual session with movement.

Meet my hall of fame movement and manual therapy teachers.

Each one of us starts life with a unique body/mind composition never before seen on planet earth. We are then exposed to a unique environment that shapes who we are. Our family, education, religion and communities support our growth as we go through life. Tonight at 6pm PST I will review my path in somatics and manual therapy. I will specifically highlight some teachers who have graciously allowed me to stand on their shoulders. These are all teachers I have studied with directly and who have saved me decades of time by sharing their profound knowledge.

We are each born in an era of human history and exploration. My particular generation was blessed as online learning had not been invented. The result for me was that I experienced studies with these world class teachers face to face. Tune in tonight as I pay homage to my teachers and their brilliance and how they shaped my life’s work.

As I have previously announced, this will be the last of my Thursday night talks that I’ve been doing for the past 3 years. Thank you all for listening. Although these talks are ending, please know that I am always open for questions and further discussion regarding somatic movement and manual therapy.

Stayed tuned as I have more to share in the very near future.

Are you taking in all that life has to offer?

“The flight of the eagle” has many meanings. in American culture it represents strength, courage and freedom. In the yoga sutras the spreading of the eagle’s wings represents life’s journey and our ability to soar and take in all that our environment has to offer. This meaning also includes the closing of the eagles wings and our ability to land to complete the journey. This journey happens on a macro level of our entire lifetime and on a micro level with every breath.

Join me tonight at 6pm PST as I discuss the meaning of the flight of the eagle and how it relates to our anatomy and psychology. How is the quality of effort in your life? How is the quality of effort in your breath? Join me tonight as I examine how we breath functionally and how our psychology influences our function and how our function influences our psychology.

For the last 3 years, I've been doing these Thursday night lectures. I've enjoyed the ride and thanks for listening. As I mentioned last week, I will be concluding these talks at the end of the month. I've got more to share, but I'm taking a break from these talks to focus my efforts elsewhere. Therefore, next Thursday night will be my last talk.

What is the shape of the universe?

How does the universe flow? What does it have to do with my personal embodiment on planet earth? How can I live in harmony with the flow of life? Join me tonight at 6pm PST as I discuss the dynamics of toroidal flow.

Our lives are full but without an environment to support us we cannot exist. There is a similarity between our inner energetic environment and our outer energetic environment... as above, so below. What is the best way to embody the support of this energetic system to improve our vitality? Is it best to conquer it or surrender to it? Join me tonight as I take a closer look at how we can each harness this efficient architecture of energy through our physical structure and movement.

Do you experience 6 dimensions of freedom in perception and movement?

Life can be full of limitations as we all must conform to the rules of our society. However, in our movement and perception we typically limit ourselves. In this video we see a brief explanation of the three axes that aircraft utilize for stability and movement. As humans, we have these same 3 planes utilize for our posture, movement and perception. However, I rarely see an individual who uses the full potential of these variables.

Join me tonight at 6pm PST as I discuss these 3 planes of awareness in our movement. In general, we have 6 dimensions (2 for each plane) of freedom to explore in any given moment. What dimension do you overuse or underuse? How does our personal bias to a single plane in our perception effect our posture and movement? How does our bias to a given plane in movement effect our perception and mental state? “Freedom isn’t free” but exploring these 6 degrees of freedom is. Join me tonight as I discuss how we can explore these realms of freedom to make our lives more complete……for free!
