The muscle behind your bunny lines has the longest name in the human body: the levator labii superioris alaeque nasi. LLSAN for short.

Small muscle, big job. It’s what lifts your upper lip when you smile. It’s what gives you a good Elvis snarl. And it’s often part of what creates bunny lines in the first place.

An injector who understands the anatomy can avoid the LLSAN by staying medial — closer to the nasalis, away from the LLSAN. But that precision comes at a cost. Avoiding the LLSAN often makes bunny line treatment a little disappointing. You’re only softening part of the movement, because you’re only treating part of the cause. And let’s be honest, what’s the point if it’s not that effective (your injector being able to bill for a few extra units isn’t a good answer!)

I rarely treat bunny lines. And when I do, it comes with real conversation first — what to expect, and whether you’re willing to trade some of that smile dynamic for smoother lines. It’s never as simple as “just treat the wrinkle.”

This is also why we never look at one area in isolation. A full-face assessment is what tells me how your muscles move together — not just what’s happening in one spot.
