Silence. Sound. Touch.
I have spent more than 40 years working in environments intentionally created to help people slow down.
Over those years, I’ve used many different tools…therapeutic touch, meditation, breath, music, nature sounds, hypnosis and, years ago, even flotation therapy.
Lately, I’ve been exploring sound in a new way by incorporating Himalayan singing bowls and tuning forks into some of my bodywork sessions.
Interestingly, it has brought me back to something I learned decades ago…
Sometimes what we remove from an experience is just as important as what we add.
Silence can be powerful.
So can the resonance of a singing bowl, the rhythm of breath, the sound of waves, or carefully chosen music.
I’m becoming increasingly interested in the space between all of them and in a question that has quietly followed me throughout my work…
What helps a human being stop doing long enough to experience themselves differently?
I don’t think there’s one answer.
But creating the conditions for someone to slow down, become present, and reconnect with themselves has always been at the heart of my work.
Apparently, it just took me 40 years to find the words for it. 😂
