Throughout the week, we’ve been recognizing the outstanding members of our Hand Therapy team in celebration of National Hand Therapy Week.

Today, we’d like to recognize Isaac, who has been serving our community through UHS for the past 7 years. Isaac is dedicated to helping patients regain function, reduce pain, and return to the activities that matter most to them.

Here are a few of Isaac’s hand health tips:

✅ Listen to your body. Break up repetitive tasks, rotate between activities, and tackle larger projects in smaller steps to help prevent overuse injuries.

✅ Maintain a baseline level of fitness. Even short, consistent exercise sessions can help improve overall health and resilience.

✅ Prioritize your tasks. Complete the most important or physically demanding activities first when your energy levels are highest.

We’re also excited to continue expanding our Occupational Therapy and Hand Therapy services at our Upper Front Street location, making it even easier for patients in our community to access specialized care close to home.

Thank you, Isaac, for your 7 years of dedication, expertise, and compassionate care. We are grateful to have you as part of the UHS team and appreciate the positive impact you make every day!

Throughout National Hand Therapy Week, we are proud to recognize the dedicated hand therapists who help our patients regain function, independence, and confidence every day.

Today, we would like to recognize Teresa, who has been a valued member of UHS for 36 years. Her compassion, expertise, and commitment to helping others have made a lasting impact on countless patients throughout our community.

One of Teresa’s favorite reminders is that your thumb accounts for nearly 50% of your hand’s function, making it essential to protect and care for your hands.

Teresa’s Tips for Thumb and Hand Pain:
• Respect pain—discomfort isn’t always noticeable during an activity.
• Protect your hands by using larger joints and muscles, such as your forearm or shoulder, to push open doors.
• Use built-up handles, larger grips, or assistive devices to reduce strain on your thumb and hand joints.
• Change your grip often during repetitive activities.
• Seek medical attention if thumb or hand pain persists.

Thank you, Teresa, for 36 years of outstanding service and for the difference you continue to make in the lives of our patients every day. We are grateful to have you as part of the UHS team!

National Hand Therapy Week Spotlight

As we continue celebrating National Hand Therapy Week, today we are excited to recognize Glenn and thank him for 10 years of dedicated service to our patients and community.

Over the past decade, Glenn has helped countless individuals recover from injuries, improve function, and return to the activities that matter most to them. His knowledge, professionalism, and patient-centered approach make him a valued member of our rehabilitation team.

Glenn also reminds us that many hand, wrist, and arm injuries can be prevented with a few simple habits:

✔️ Keep moving throughout the day—avoid staying in one position for extended periods of time.

✔️ Set up your workspace for success—maintain comfortable arm and wrist positions while working.

✔️ Consider ergonomic tools—equipment designed to reduce strain can make a significant difference over time.

Even small changes to your daily routine can help protect your hands and upper extremities while improving comfort and performance.

We’re also proud to continue growing our Occupational Therapy and Hand Therapy services at our Upper Front Street clinic, expanding access to specialized care for patients throughout our community.

Thank you, Glenn, for 10 years of outstanding care and for the positive impact you continue to make every day. We are grateful to have you on our team.

Happy National Hand Therapy Week!

Throughout the week, we will be recognizing the talented hand therapy professionals who help our patients recover, regain function, and return to the activities they enjoy. Today, we are proud to recognize Andy, our Certified Hand Therapist, for an incredible 33 years of dedicated service.

Throughout his career, Andy has helped countless individuals recover from hand, wrist, and upper extremity injuries while providing compassionate, expert care to our community.

As we celebrate National Hand Therapy Week, Andy would like to share a few important tips to keep your hands and arms healthy this spring and summer:

1. Pay attention to small aches and pains before they develop into more significant hand and arm issues.

2. Use properly fitting, comfortable gardening, yard work, and household tools to help minimize stress on your joints and muscles.

3. Never ignore numbness or tingling in your hands or arms. Seeking medical advice early can improve outcomes and help prevent long-term problems.

We are also excited to continue expanding our Occupational Therapy and Hand Therapy services at our new Upper Front Street physical therapy and rehab clinic, making it easier than ever for patients to access specialized care close to home.

Thank you, Andy, for your 33 years of dedication, expertise, and commitment to helping our patients live healthier, more active lives

What an incredible weekend at UHS Owego Physical Therapy!

We were proud to host a portion of the National Championships for 100% Raw Powerlifting, and the energy throughout the weekend was nothing short of amazing. Lifters, coaches, volunteers, families, and spectators came together to create an atmosphere filled with determination, support, and community.

The level of competition was outstanding, with numerous state, national, and world records broken throughout the event. It was inspiring to watch athletes of all ages and experience levels push their limits and achieve goals they have worked so hard to reach.

Beyond the competition itself, we were especially grateful to use this event as an opportunity to give back. Through the generosity of our attendees, we were able to raise money for the UHS Foundation Food Pantry, helping support individuals and families right here in our local community.

A huge thank you to all of the lifters, volunteers, referees, spectators, sponsors, and supporters who helped make this event such a success. Your passion, sportsmanship, and generosity are what make events like this possible.

We are honored to be part of such an amazing strength community and look forward to seeing everyone again at future events!

Today we want to highlight some of our clients who have made incredible progress. Each of these women put in the work even on the days it wasn’t easy, and recently hit a massive milestone: deadlifting 200 lbs.

This isn’t just about strength. It’s about trust—trusting their bodies again, committing to post-rehab training when no one was watching, and refusing to be defined by setbacks.

To these three athletes: your dedication is inspiring. You’re proving that healing and heavy lifting can go hand in hand.

Injuries don’t have to hold you back. With the right support, guidance, and hard work, it’s possible to come back stronger. At UHS, we’re here to help support you every step of the way as you overcome challenges and reach your goals.

Today, the Sports Performance team at UHS came together for a roundtable discussion focused on program design, injury prevention, and improving sports performance for our athletes.

Education is the foundation of what we do at UHS. We are committed to continually improving ourselves every day so we can provide the highest level of care, training, and support for our athletes and community.

Just like our athletes, we believe growth comes from continuously learning, adapting, and striving to be better every day.

Good morning! We want to give a big shoutout to our intern, Maddie from SUNY Cortland, for completing her internship at our Vestal Sports Performance gym with strength coaches Guilhem and Jakob.

Throughout her time with us, Maddie made a lasting impact on both our staff and patients through her hard work, positive attitude, and willingness to learn every day. She has a very bright future ahead of her, and we are excited to see all she accomplishes moving forward.

Thank you for all your hard work, Maddie, and we wish you the very best of luck in the future!
