Ever notice how your inner voice sounds like a never-ending to-do list?

"I should be doing more."
"I should be handling this better."
"I should be more patient, productive, involved, successful..."

For a lot of people, "should" isn't motivation. It's pressure.

And over time, carrying all those expectations can leave you feeling exhausted, even when you're doing your best.

Here's something worth considering: what if you replaced one "should" today with "it would be nice if..."?

Small shift. Less shame. You don't have to earn rest. You don't have to prove your worth through constant productivity.

If this hit a little too close to home, it might be time to give yourself the support you've been giving everyone else.

🖤🤍 Is Everything Really Black or White? 🤍🖤

Have you ever caught yourself thinking:
"If I make a mistake, I'm a failure."
"If they disagree with me, they must not like me."
"If I'm not perfect, I'm not good enough."

This is called **black-and-white thinking** (also known as all-or-nothing thinking), and it's one of the most common thinking errors we see in therapy.

The problem? Life rarely exists in extremes.

Most situations live in the gray area:
🪶You can make a mistake and still be competent.
🪶Someone can love you and still be frustrated with you.
🪶You can have a difficult day and still be making progress.
🪶You can struggle and still be strong.

When we view the world through an all-or-nothing lens, we often create unnecessary stress, anxiety, shame, and conflict. GRAY IS OKAY! Learning to recognize the gray areas can help us develop a more balanced, compassionate perspective toward ourselves and others.

The next time you catch yourself thinking in absolutes like *always, never, everyone, nobody, perfect,* or *failure,* ask yourself:

💭 "Is this a fact or a feeling?"
💭 "What evidence supports a middle ground?"
💭 "What would I tell a friend in this situation?"

🐦 At Bluebird Mental Health, we believe growth happens when we make room for all the shades in between.

Ever feel like everyone else got a handbook for life that you somehow missed? Like you're trying your best to keep up, but underneath it all, you're just tired of carrying so much alone.
Being human is complicated. We all have struggles, blind spots, hurts, fears, and patterns we're still trying to understand.
The good news? Understanding yourself isn't selfish. It's one of the most compassionate things you can do.
Because when we understand ourselves better, we often become gentler with ourselves too. And sometimes that's where healing begins.

Sometimes the hardest part is reaching out. When you're ready, we're here.

Why did we change the outside of our building? Because it's iconic, and we love to do iconic stuff ✨

We recently gave our building a fresh new look with a limewash makeover, and we couldn’t love more how it turned out. Just like mental health, sometimes transformation doesn’t mean becoming something completely different. It means creating space to breathe, heal, and feel renewed.

At Bluebird, we believe growth can look both beautiful and imperfect. A fresh coat can’t solve everything, but creating a warm, welcoming space for our community matters to us. 💙

We’re honored to continue building a place where people feel safe, supported, and cared for — inside and out.

We had an amazing time meeting so many wonderful students at South Knox Elementary School today during their Career Fair! 💙

It’s always such an honor to share what we do, talk about the importance of mental health, and hopefully inspire the next generation along the way. We loved every minute of it! ✨

🎨 What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of counseling that uses creative expression—like drawing, painting, collage, or simple hands-on art materials—to help people explore thoughts and emotions in a different way.

You don’t need any art skills or experience. This isn’t about making something “good,” “perfect,” or even "right. It’s about using creativity as a tool to help you understand yourself and what you’re going through in a safe, supportive space. Sometimes words just do not match the lived experienced, art helps to express it and understand it better for yourself. Then, words usually follow to help others understand you better. 💙

✨ What to expect in an art therapy session:

Sessions may include simple art activities guided by a therapist, time to reflect on what you created, and conversation about thoughts, feelings, or experiences that come up. Sometimes we talk while creating, and sometimes the art speaks first. Not everyone approaches the process the same way, so your experience with art therapy may not be the same as someone else's—that's the beautiful part!

There is no right or wrong way to do it—your experience and expression are what matter most.

🌿 How art therapy can help:

Art therapy can:
• Help express feelings that are hard to put into words
• Reduce stress, anxiety, and overwhelming emotional
• Support healing from trauma and difficult life experiences
• Build self-awareness and emotional understanding
• Strengthen confidence and coping skills for children, teens, and adults

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

At Bluebird Mental Health, we believe that taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. No exceptions.

This month is about breaking stigma, starting real conversations, and reminding you that you don’t have to carry things alone. Whether you’re navigating stress, anxiety, trauma, or just feeling off, your experience matters.

Our clinicians put you first. We truly care, and we are honored to walk alongside you in your journey.

Healing doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to begin.
