Did you know that 1 death by su***de can impact as many as 135 people?

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and this is something we believe deserves more than just a month of awareness.

When we think about su***de prevention, we often think about recognizing the signs, starting the conversation, and helping someone through a crisis. All of that is incredibly important.

But something we don't talk about enough is what happens **after** a su***de.

The people left behind need care, too. Su***de loss can bring such complicated grief — the questions, the guilt, the anger, the sadness, and sometimes feelings that are difficult to even put into words. Supporting su***de loss survivors is an important part of prevention. Postvention is prevention.

We were grateful to attend the Best Practices of Su***de Prevention at Vincennes University and learn more about some of the incredible resources available to our community. We left with a greater appreciation for the people and organizations doing this important work and for the many ways we can better support both those at risk and those who have experienced a loss.

A couple of resources we want to share are:

💙 American Foundation for Su***de Prevention (AFSP)— offering education, support, advocacy, and resources for individuals and families affected by su***de. https://afsp.org/

💙 National Association of Retrospective Fatality Analysis (NARFA)— working to learn from su***de deaths and better understand the factors involved so communities can identify opportunities for prevention. https://www.retrospectivefatality.org/

One thing we were reminded of through this training is that prevention really is a community effort.

It can look like checking on a friend. Asking the uncomfortable question. Listening without trying to fix everything. Connecting someone with help. Or simply continuing to show up for someone who has experienced a loss.

We don't have to have all the answers. We just have to be willing to care, to listen, and to keep the conversation going.

Learn about su***de, how you can help prevent it, and resources for those affected, from the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. Our mission: save lives and bring hope to those affected by su***de

A new category has been added to this year’s Vincennes Sun-Commercial Readers’ Choice Awards!

We’re honored to be included in the *Best Mental Health Services* category alongside a few other incredible mental health providers in our community. 💙

We love seeing mental health recognized in our community like this. There are SO many wonderful therapists and practices doing meaningful work right here in our area.

If you choose to participate, you can vote once a day during the voting period. If Bluebird isn’t your choice, we hope you’ll consider supporting another amazing local practice, or even writing in your favorite if you don’t see them listed.

No matter who you choose, we’re just grateful to be part of a community that continues to recognize the importance of mental health care. 🩵

Here’s to celebrating the people and practices helping our community feel a little less alone. 🐦

**SOUND ON!**
Bluebird is officially 1 year old today!

One year of big dreams, hard work, growing pains, laughter, tears, and so many meaningful moments.

As we look back on how much Bluebird has grown, we’re also reminded of the growth, healing, and resilience we’ve witnessed in the clients we’ve had the privilege of serving. That is something we will never take for granted.

We are incredibly grateful for the support of our community and honored to be a small part of so many stories. Here’s to year two!

Some days at Bluebird look a little messy...and we LOVE it.

What may look like a mess to some is **growth, creativity, connection, and healing** to us.

What may look like a blank sheet of paper to some is actually an **outlet for clients to learn about themselves and express emotion** to us.

Behind these pictures are clients exploring, expressing themselves, working through big feelings, and learning that it’s okay to be exactly where they are. The toys get moved, the sand gets everywhere, and the art supplies rarely stay organized. But that’s part of the work.

Just a few scenes from our day at the office.

Do you have an inner critic that comments on everything you do?

"That's not good enough."
"You should do it better."
"People are going to judge you."

You're not alone. A lot of people think they have to be talented, creative, confident, or "good" at something before they can try it. But healing doesn't work that way.

You don't need perfect words.
You don't need perfect art.
You don't need perfect anything.

You just need permission to show up as you are. And honestly? That's usually the hardest part.
If your inner critic needed this reminder today, save it for later.

Have you ever thought, "I know what I should do...I just can't seem to do it"? That's one of the most frustrating feelings.

You know the relationship isn't healthy.
You know overthinking isn't helping.
You know you need better boundaries.

And yet, change still feels hard.

Because insight is important…but insight alone isn't always enough. Sometimes we need practical tools to help us navigate big emotions, stressful situations, and complicated relationships.

Growth isn't about becoming perfect. It's about learning new ways to respond to yourself with a little more understanding and a little less judgment. Therapy can help you build practical skills that make daily life easier.

Ever wish your child could just tell you what's wrong? Most parents do.

But children often don't have the vocabulary, emotional awareness, or developmental ability to explain what they're feeling. Instead, they show us.

Through behavior.
Through play.
Through imagination.

What looks like "just playing" can actually be a child's way of processing experiences, emotions, and relationships.

Sometimes kids tell their stories with words. Sometimes they tell them with toys. Both are meaningful. Supporting your child starts with understanding their world. We're here if you need guidance.

Have you ever walked into a room and felt like you needed to pretend everything was fine?

A lot of us become really good at saying "I'm okay" when we're anything but okay. The truth is, healing usually doesn't happen when we're performing. It happens when we feel safe enough to be honest.

Messy. Overwhelmed. Confused. Anxious. Human.

You don't need the perfect words. You don't need a polished version of yourself. Sometimes growth starts with simply telling the truth about how you're doing. And if that's hard for you, you're definitely not the only one.

Healing takes honesty, accountability, and support. You don't have to do that work alone. We’re here when you’re ready.
