Day 620: Carson had his monthly chemo and labs, and for the most part everything is good. His platelets are a little low at 66, but he doesn’t need a transfusion. We just have to watch him for bleeding and bruising. He was welcomed home today by Pam Taylor-Ogden and Vine Grove Fire Department. He loves his new warm Snuggie! We are getting closer to kicking cancers b***y. He has about 5 more months of chemo left. The end is so close, I can see it.

Day 616: Carson went back to school today. His legs are sore, but overall he is doing great. He loved his surprise all the way from the beautiful island of Jamaica. Jamaica TourGuide by janel found out about Carson and wanted to send back a little gift for him. He loves his new stuffie friend.

Day 615: Carson’s school picture came in and he is just the cutest. He goes back to school tomorrow and his break comes to an end. However, over the weekend he was able to hang out with a good friend he met at school. I love seeing my boy be a typical “kid.”

Day 605: Carson and I were twinning for school today. He had his labs checked and everything looks great, some things are so high that they are upping his chemo to 75%. With him being so sick it was lowered to 50%. It takes about 10 days for his body to feel the full affects of the increase, so he should still have a great Fall Break. He is excited to be hanging out with his Mammy for Fall Break. Here is to him being a “normal “ kid this break.

Day 603: Carson is looking and smelling good for picture day. Also, this boy is going to make the tooth fairy go broke. He received $20 for his first tooth and just lost a second one. (Just in time for picture day. 😂)

Day 600: Nothing really special today. It’s just crazy that my baby has been diagnosed with this horrible disease for 600 days. Dealing with things no 6 year old should ever have to. Even the little things. Like his mouth sores are pretty bad right now, so I bought him a stronger mouthwash to use at home to get rid of them. He absolutely hates it and I caught myself saying, “This is easy. You do so many harder things.” Yet, that’s not fair. He shouldn’t have to deal with so many horrible things. He shouldn’t have to “get use to it”. I followed up with, “I know it’s not fair and I wish I could change that, but I can”t. Sometimes life just really isn’t fair.” What else can you say to a 6 year old put through hell and back just to survive? Moments after he forgot about the “yucky” mouthwash and he begins to works on crafts. However, I have to fight back the tears thinking about all the things he’s going though that just isn’t fair.

Day 597 (Part 2):Carson followed up with his oncologist today. They are thinking the pain is from chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. He will be scheduled gabapentin twice daily to help with the nerve pain and oxycodone as needed if it gets extreme again. The chemo has also caused his mouth sores to come back. Poor kid can’t catch a break with chemo.
However, Toshie Singleton Murrell invited Carson to visit FOREVER HOMES FOR PAWS to play with the puppies. He misses having dogs at home, but with his treatment and hospital stays we can’t dedicate the time and energy a dog deserves. Carson (and his brothers) absolutely loved spending time with the puppies. I don’t want him to get attached to the animals, so I told him he was just babysitting someone else’s pup. However, these adorable little pups are available for adoption!!! I wish we had the time and money they need and deserve!

Day 597: MRI came back normal 🙌
No real answers for his pain. The nurses were never able to get blood return, so no bloodwork. They sent him home with pain meds and told us to follow up with his oncologist, when they open in the morning. Hate to see my little man in pain and not knowing how to fix it. Takes me back to the months before diagnosis. He was in so much pain and no one could figure out why. At least now they believe us. 😔
