Physical pain is probably the first aspect of the pain experience that comes to mind. Physical pain is usually associated with injury, disease, and/or the aging process. This aspect of pain is relatively well understood. Nerve endings in our body's tissues send messages to our brain alerting it that something is mechanically wrong. We treat this aspect of pain with physical treatments, medication, or surgery. While most instances of physical pain are limited to a short duration and subside when the injured tissue is healed and remodeled, there are cases where physical pain becomes chronic. In these instances, some of the other aspects of pain become inextricably intertwined and often serve to make the physical aspect of pain worse. We will look into some of these other types of pain in upcoming posts.
Physical therapists are specialists in treating physical pain through careful examination and diagnosis of the body tissues that are injured or not functioning properly. We use hands-on treatment and carefully selected exercises to promote healing and restoration that ultimately can result in a decrease in the physical pain experience. If you need help with physical pain you are experiencing, please call us today! 540.529.9381

Are you looking to start running? A progressive plan is one of the best ways to get going safely. I've used the Couch to 5K program successfully in the past to go from a period of non-running to returning to a 5K distance several times per week. The free app, C25K, is available on android and iPhone platforms and will help you reach a 5K goal in about 8 weeks. If you need further help with starting your running journey, or want to make sure that your body is moving well in this endeavor, call us to make an appointment for a movement assessment. 540.529.9381.
(Note: Primary Solutions does not have any financial connection with the C2K app, and this information is provided solely for informational purposes. Before initiating any exercise program, you should be assessed by a physician or physical therapist).

Are you concerned that running may not be good for you in the long run? A recent article in the journal Arthritis and Rheumatology did a long-term study on individuals participating in high energy sports and found no difference in arthritis related pain between this group and those who did not exercise. Here's a link to the abstract of this article:

We are thankful for the opportunity to serve Judy Mick. We hope her story of her experience with Primary Solutions Physical Therapy inspires and encourages you!
"I can't really put into words how happy I am with Dr. Nate! As a 63-year-old runner who runs every day, it's important to keep on top of any little "glitches" that I get from time to time. Dr. Nate takes the time to listen and address whatever needs worked on at any given time.

I started going to Dr. Nate after a meniscus tear. With his work and exercises he gave me, I managed to keep running to keep the streak alive. And, my meniscus no longer gives me any trouble.

I consider it a blessing that I found Dr. Nate and am so happy with his treatment!"

Thank you, Judy, for sharing your story with us and allowing us to share it with others!
