The other day, my husband asked me a question that caught me off guard.
He said,
“What do you actually do during a Reiki session?”
I’m used to explaining it in more clinical terms. How Reiki helps guide the body out of a fight or flight state and into the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing the body to slow down and begin to heal.
How I act as a conduit, allowing energy to move where it’s needed and supporting areas that feel stuck or heavy.
And all of that is true.
But when he asked me that question, what came out of my mouth surprised even me.
I said,
“I pray.”
Not in a passive way.
Not in a distant way.
But in a deeply focused, intentional way.
I tune into your energy and the intention you came in with.
I help create a space where your body can let go of tension and finally relax.
And alongside that…
Yes, I pray.
I ask for healing, for peace and for clarity.
I imagine you surrounded by light, grounded and supported.
I trust that your body already knows how to heal, and I help create the conditions for that to happen.
Most importantly, I hold space for you to remember something many of us forget:
That you’re not alone, you are supported and you are deeply loved.
That’s what’s happening when you’re on my table.
