Listening to my body may very well have saved my life! (And YES I’m fine - it’s just been a weird few days.)
My 3 day weekend quickly turned into a 5 day weekend Thursday morning. I finished my workout and had nothing left to give! I walked out to my car and wasn’t feeling great. A feeling I’d had before when pushing too hard in a workout. No big deal, I knew how to work through it.
I sat in my car, deep breathing to slow my heart rate. I looked at the clock - “Crap! I’m gonna be late for work, I’ll be fine to get going.”
That thought was almost immediately followed by another round of cold sweats which kept me from driving.
I thought “Maybe I need to go back inside.” My quads activated with a thought of “you won’t make it inside”
I opened my door right as my coach walked out of the gym and was able to beep my car horn one time. She came over & within about a minute I had passed out coupled with a few seconds of convulsing.
A short ambulance ride (which I’d never done!) and an entire day in the ER - and while we’re still not 100% sure what happened, I have follow up appointments made.
Pretty sure it was just a mix of various things that created a perfect storm in my efforts to be an overachiever!
While I don’t know yet what caused it all to happen - I DO know that had I not listened to my body in those moments to not drive or walk - things could have been so much worse.
The last few days have been spent doing simple walks in the park, chilling with my pups & a couple days of live music / dancing! And of course over analyzing every signal that my body is sending me 😝
I don’t share this to be dramatic - I share it in hopes that it will help others begin paying attention.
Our bodies are always telling us something. Through our sleep, our fatigue, our illnesses - there’s so many ways - we just have to learn how to listen.
