Did you know lipedema was first described in 1940? 💜✨

That means lipedema is not new.

It has been documented for decades, yet many patients are still dismissed, misdiagnosed, or told to “just lose weight.”

That is one of the most frustrating parts of this condition.

Many patients know something is different long before they receive a diagnosis.

They may notice:

💜 Disproportionate legs or arms

💜 Painful or tender tissue

💜 Easy bruising

💜 Heaviness

💜 Swelling symptoms

💜 Poor response to traditional weight-loss advice

💜 A feeling that no one is really listening

Lipedema awareness matters because recognition changes care.

When providers understand lipedema, patients are more likely to receive proper evaluation, appropriate referrals, compression education, lymphatic support, and a care plan that respects the complexity of the condition.

Awareness is not a trend.

It is long overdue. 💜

Did you know researchers still discuss the “edema” in lipedema? 💜🩺

The word lipedema sounds simple.

Lipo = fat.

Edema = swelling or fluid.

But lipedema is not simple.

Some researchers question whether classic edema is always present in lipedema tissue. Others discuss tissue fluid changes, extracellular fluid, inflammation, fibrosis, swelling symptoms, and lymphatic involvement.

This is one reason lipedema is so often misunderstood.

A patient may feel heaviness, pressure, tenderness, swelling, aching, and tissue pain even when obvious pitting edema is not present.

That does not mean the symptoms are not real.

It means the condition needs a more thoughtful clinical assessment.

Lipedema should never be reduced to one word, one symptom, or one visual appearance.

Patients deserve evaluation that considers pain, tissue texture, swelling patterns, mobility, bruising, compression tolerance, lymphatic function, and quality of life. 💜

Lipedema Awareness Month is the perfect time to move past oversimplified explanations.

Educational only. Not medical advice. Always consult a qualified medical provider.

Liposuction doesn’t just remove fat — it temporarily alters lymphatic pathways. 🩺

After surgery, your body must reroute fluid through healing tissue.
That’s where swelling, firmness, and fluid shifts come from.

Key things to understand:

• Lymphatic pathways are disrupted temporarily
• Fluid must be strategically redirected
• Improper care can prolong swelling
• Early support helps prevent tissue irregularities

Manual Lymphatic Drainage after liposuction is not cosmetic.
It is physiological. 💧

When performed correctly and at the right stage, it supports healthy rerouting, reduces prolonged inflammation, and improves overall healing outcomes.

Post-surgical lymphatic care is critical for optimal recovery and results. ✨

Did you know lipedema and Dercum’s disease can both involve painful adipose tissue, but they are not the same condition? 💜🩺

This is where many patients get confused.

Lipedema is commonly described as a symmetrical, painful adipose tissue disorder that most often affects the legs and sometimes the arms.

Dercum’s disease, also called adiposis dolorosa, is a rare condition associated with painful fatty tissue deposits or painful lipomas.

Both may involve pain.

Both may involve tenderness.

Both may involve abnormal fat tissue.

But they are not interchangeable.

This matters because the right diagnosis can change the treatment plan, compression strategy, lymphatic care approach, and referral pathway.

If you have been told your symptoms are “just weight,” “just aging,” or “just inflammation,” please know this:

Painful tissue deserves proper evaluation. 💜

Lipedema Awareness Month is not only about awareness.

It is about better questions, better assessment, and better care.

Educational only. Not medical advice. Always consult a qualified medical provider.

Not all compression is created equal. 👗

After surgery, your lymphatic system is already working overtime.
What you wear can either support healing — or disrupt it.

🚫 Waist trainers:
• Create rigid pressure points
• Trap fluid between compression zones
• Form pressure ridges in tissue
• Restrict natural lymphatic flow
• Can worsen post-surgical swelling

✅ Medical-grade garments:
• Distribute pressure evenly
• Support healthy lymphatic return
• Are designed specifically for post-surgical healing
• Reduce swelling safely and effectively

Compression is a medical device — not a fashion trend. 🩺

The wrong garment can delay recovery.
The right one supports it.

Choose structured, stage-appropriate compression guided by trained professionals.

Did you know purple is the official color for Lipedema Awareness Month? 💜✨
June is Lipedema Awareness Month.

It is a time to bring visibility, education, and support to a condition that is still underdiagnosed, misunderstood, and too often dismissed.

The purple awareness ribbon is used to represent lipedema awareness and support.

Why does this matter?

Because accurate awareness matters.

When we use the right language, the right visuals, and the right education, we help patients feel seen without adding more confusion.

Wear purple in June.

Share accurate information.

Support better recognition.

Help lipedema patients be heard. 💜🩺

Lipedema awareness is not just about a color.

It is about visibility, education, and better care.

Educational only. Not medical advice. Always consult a qualified medical provider.

Lipedema is not weight gain.
It is a chronic medical condition. 🧡

Affects 11% of women worldwide — yet remains widely misunderstood.

Lipedema can cause:
• Painful swelling
• Easy bruising
• Heaviness in the legs or arms
• Progressive tissue changes

It is not caused by lifestyle.
It does not resolve with diet alone.
And early diagnosis can change everything. 🌿

Awareness leads to validation.
Validation leads to proper care.

At TheraFlow Health, we support women navigating lipedema with clinical lymphatic care, education, and compassionate guidance.

You are not imagining it.
You are not alone. 🤍

June is Lipedema Awareness Month 💚🦋
And if your legs feel heavy, painful, swollen, tender, or disproportionate, I want you to know something:
You are not lazy.
You are not imagining it.
And this is not “just weight.”
Lipedema is a chronic fat and connective tissue disorder that most commonly affects women, although men can have it too. It can affect the legs, hips, thighs, buttocks, and sometimes the arms.
Many patients describe it as walking around with concrete legs. The tissue may bruise easily, feel painful to touch, swell by the end of the day, or stop responding the way regular fat responds to diet and exercise.
As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, I support lipedema and lipo-lymphedema patients with clinical Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Complete Decongestive Therapy principles, compression guidance, garment fitting, tissue assessment, education, and referrals when needed.
Your lymphatic system is like the drainage system of the body. When the system becomes overloaded, everything backs up. Because lymphatic fluid is rich in protein, untreated congestion can contribute to heaviness, thickening, inflammation, and fibrosis over time.
Lipedema is real.
Lymphatic care matters.
And patients deserve to be understood, not blamed.
