āš½šŸ’™ GOAL FORWARD IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY! šŸ’™āš½

What a great first day of our Goal Forward: Walking Soccer for Parkinson’s program!

Our participants came ready to move, learn, challenge themselves, and have FUN! Over the next 8 weeks, we’ll use walking soccer to work on balance, BIG movement, turning, agility, dual-tasking, endurance, and confidence—all while building connections and having a great time. ⚽

We are incredibly grateful to the Parkinson’s Foundation for the Community Grant that made this program possible and allows us to offer it at no cost to participants.

Today was one of those days that reminded me why I keep going.

I received an incredibly generous donation from the estate of one of our former fighters. But as meaningful as that gift is, what it represents means even more to me.

Before her Parkinson’s progressed and she had to leave us, she shared a very special goal with me: she wanted to be able to dance at her son’s wedding and walk down the aisle with him.

I was lucky enough to see her do both. ā¤ļø

There have been plenty of moments over the years when I have wondered how much longer I could keep doing this. There have been countless hours spent networking, looking for funding, trying to keep our doors open, worrying about finances, and wondering whether all of the work and sacrifice were enough.

And then something like this happens.

Knowing that this community meant enough to her that she chose to support it even after she was no longer able to be here is something I will never forget.

It reminded me that what we have built is about so much more than exercise classes. It’s about helping someone work toward dancing at their son’s wedding. It’s about walking beside people through some of the hardest chapters of their lives. It’s about friendships, victories, setbacks, laughter, tears, and a community that continues to show up for one another.

Her gift will help us continue that mission for the next person who walks through our doors with a goal that matters deeply to them.

Today, I feel incredibly grateful—and reminded that through all the worry, long hours, and uncertainty, I am exactly where I am supposed to be, surrounded by the right people to help carry this mission forward.

To our fighter: thank you for trusting me, for allowing me to be a small part of your journey, and for leaving a legacy that will help others keep fighting. ā¤ļøšŸ„Š

Your impact on this community will continue.

In Loving Memory of Paul šŸ’™

Our hearts are heavy as we share the passing of our dear friend, Paul.

Paul hadn’t been able to join us in class for quite some time, and we had missed seeing him. We were so saddened to hear the news of his passing last week.

If you knew Paul, you knew he had his own way of doing things. He loved his special chair—it was his spot—and getting down on the floor just wasn’t his thing. If he didn’t like something, there was never any question… he’d let us know with his signature thumbs down, and it always brought a smile to our faces because it was just so Paul.

Behind that determined personality was an incredibly caring man with a heart for others and a smile that could brighten the room. He brought warmth, humor, and kindness to everyone around him. And if there were banana popsicles, you knew they would make his day.

Although it had been a while since we’d seen him in class, Paul has never been forgotten. He was, and always will be, a cherished part of our ENFWC family.

We’ll miss your smile, your honesty, your thumbs down, and all the little things that made you uniquely you.

Rest peacefully, Paul. Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. You will always hold a special place in our hearts. šŸ’™

⚽ GOAL FORWARD: Walking Soccer for Parkinson’s ⚽

8 Weeks. One Goal: Keep Moving Forward.

We’re excited to introduce Goal Forward, our new 8-week Walking Soccer for Parkinson’s program!

Goal Forward is about much more than soccer. Each week uses soccer-based movement and Parkinson’s-specific exercises to work on skills that matter in everyday life—walking, balance, turning, reacting, thinking while moving, endurance, communication, and confidence.

Here’s what we’ll tackle:
⚽ Week 1 | Find Your Foundation – Posture, gait initiation & BIG walking
⚽ Week 2 | Shift & Balance – Weight shifting, balance & controlled movement
⚽ Week 3 | Turn & Keep Moving – Turning, direction changes & freezing strategies
⚽ Week 4 | React & Recover – Reactive stepping, agility & fall prevention
⚽ Week 5 | Brain + Body – Dual-tasking, memory & thinking while moving
⚽ Week 6 | Build Endurance – Cardiovascular fitness & continuous movement
⚽ Week 7 | Communicate & Connect – Voice, confidence, cognition & teamwork
šŸ† Week 8 | Goal Forward Cup – Put it all together with
challenges and a mini tournament!

Who can participate?
āœ“ Individuals living with Parkinson’s disease
āœ“ Able to walk independently without an assistive device
āœ“ No soccer experience needed
āœ“ Able to participate in a 60-minute active group class
āœ“ Space is limited

šŸ“ Virginia Beach Field House
šŸ“… Thursdays | 8-week program
ā±ļø 60 minutes
šŸ’™ FREE for eligible participants

Goal Forward is made possible through a Community Grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation, made possible thanks to the generosity of the estate of Stanley and Gloria Brams.

You don’t have to be a soccer player. You just have to be ready to move, challenge yourself, connect with others, and GOAL FORWARD! āš½šŸ’™

🌷Exciting News for Our Parkinson’s Community!

We are incredibly grateful to announce that The Empowerment Neurofitness & Wellness Center has received funding to help us expand Parkinson’s-specific exercise and wellness programming throughout Hampton Roads!

This funding will help us reach more individuals living with Parkinson’s, reduce barriers to participation, and bring specialized programs into communities where access may be limited. For us, this is about more than adding classes—it’s about creating more opportunities for people with Parkinson’s to move, stay strong, build confidence, connect with others, and maintain their independence.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to continue growing our impact and bringing these much-needed resources to more families across Hampton Roads.

This program is supported by a Community Grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation, made possible thanks to the generosity of the estate of Stanley and Gloria Brams.

We can’t wait to share more about the new programs and locations coming soon! šŸ’™
