Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the first responders, service members and ordinary people who stepped forward in the days that followed.

We also hold close the families and communities who continue to carry that loss, 25 years later.

Kassie and Kelly are finalists for WTKR News 3’s Humanitarian of the Year Award, and only a couple of days remain to vote.

Moments like this remind us why community partnerships matter so much. We are deeply grateful to Suffolk Public Schools for trusting our Suffolk Family YMCA team with their students’ water safety this summer. Seeing these sweet drawings and thank-you notes reminds us that building confidence around the water is a true team effort for our entire community!

Every summer, we partner with Suffolk Public Schools to provide FREE Safety Around Water programming to roughly 200 students, helping ensure that kids in our community have the skills and confidence they need to be safer in and around water. 🏊‍♀️

Every child deserves a place where they feel welcome.

Thanks to Chartway Credit Union's Chartway Promise Foundation, the adaptive room at Camp Grom has been transformed into the Chartway Chill Zone, featuring an incredible new mural by local artist Troy Summerell, better known as OnieTonie Designs.

Bright colors. Happy sea life. A space designed to help children feel calm, included and inspired.

When asked why he creates artwork like this, OnieTonie said, "Life's hard enough as it is... I really feel like trying to make a positive difference."

That's exactly what this mural does.

Thank you to Chartway Promise Foundation for investing in our campers and to OnieTonie for filling this space with so much joy.

Memorial Day looks different for everyone.
For some, it’s the start of summer. Time with family. A long weekend. For us at the Y, it’s the opening of our outdoor pools and the beginning of a busy season filled with families, kids, and community.
All of those moments matter.
They’re made possible by something deeper.
Memorial Day exists because of those who gave their lives in service to this country, and the families who carry that loss.
As we gather, we hold space for both. Time together and time to remember. Gratitude for the freedoms we enjoy and recognition of the sacrifice behind them.
This Memorial Day, we pause to honor those who gave everything, and we remember stories like that of Lance Cpl. Kielin Terrell Dunn, carried forward by families like Terri Dunn Campbell, and reflected in the spaces we create to support them.
